Today I'm covering the mods to my oil pan to get my OM617 down and back as much as possible in my Toyota 4runner.

The fabricator in me wants to tell you a few things. If you bent metal instead of welding corners, you could have made that out of 2 pieces (or even one) and probably cut your welding in half. Also radius corners would be another upgrade. Instead of using plasma for all the cuts, use a hole saw to cut inside corners and connect the dots with the plasma. You could do your bends over a pipe or something to match the radius. Doing that takes less time and eliminates 1/2 of your possible leak points. Doing lap joints would give you more meat at the weld so you could use more heat for less time, that could help with the warping. Bottom line, the way I would do it wouldn't be perfect either but it would be faster and have less places to leak. If you add those tricks to your fabrication, you'll get the same benefit.

My favorite "FREE" sheet metal resource is 55 gallon drums. The body is 18 ga. and the ends are 14 ga. and of good quality steel, easy to weld.

You can find the exact spot of the leak by filling your bathtub with water and flipping the pan upside down into the water, the bubbles don't lie. I had to do that with my motorcycle's gas tank. Epoxy works too, just make sure it can handle the heat. Original JB Weld would works fine.

If you have a piece of sheet big enough to bolt the pan down with a gasket in place you can tap an air hose fitting and push a few psi through it or better if you have access to a smoke machine. That'll assist in locating all the pinholes and you can tac em shut as you go along

I have a drain valve, weld a nut to the inside of the pan and seal it up once I finalize mounting and know where things will land for sure
