The crank adapter is made from 1045 steel. To the layman, it is a high-strength steel that retains machineability. That allows 6 flywheel bolts to be used, versus 8/10/12. It also lends itself to maintaining tight tolerances. The production version of this kit goes to an aluminum adapter plate with a galvanneal starter spacer. The separate dust shield is eliminated, simplifying installation. Grade 50 steel was used for the Beta Test, as it was much more cost-effective and quicker to work with. The weight difference in the 2 kits is approximately 9 lbs vs 24 lbs. It has also been noted since the Beta Test took place that this adapter will work for the 32RH. An AW4 Beta Test is currently ongoing.

I am looking to possibly doing a 5.7 Hemi swap into my XJ also with an AX15. Do you offer a kit for this or know of anyone who does. My ultimate goal is a daily driver that offers me better than 10 MPG (local) that is reliable with a little more power than the 4.0L offers. Thanks and God bless, stay well.

Suggestion to anybody using transmission adapter plates for any engine / trans swap. Checking for proper axial clearances and runout are imperative for things to not eat themselves. Do yourself a favor and be sure to precisely check with a precision indicator setup while mocking up the assembly before just throwing it together and firing it up with caution to the wind. This is a great series as it shows the hard truths of DIY outside the box. Most don't tell the unvarnished truth. Props to you. I've enjoyed watching.

I have looked at dooms day diesel, watched there vids. There products are in the same price as other's. When I checked 3-4 years back. When I bought my om617. I have not done the swap yet. Still sitting....if you have looked at an original Mercedes adapter plate it an inch or thicker cast aluminum. How or why they think a 3/8 plate would work is beyond me, most kits use 1/2" aluminum or steel, some ppl think they need to save weight by using aluminum I have no problem using steel. The only think can think is theyr trying to reduce or the thickness of the bushing by using 3/8" adapter plate. I like the idea of the berring instead of bushing. But all early engines have bushing and millions vehicles had/ have them. So its not an absolute huge issue but in your case alignment prob contributed to it I would venture to guess. My hat off to you for sticking to fixing it 7 times!! I might have bailed out after the 2nd one. I'm sure it will be a great running vehicle after this.

I drove an old 80 model 300 SD Turbo Diesel. Love it my wife hated it. I traded it away. That was a heavy 6500 lb. car. Got 25 mpg, I drove the shit out of that car. I have often thought I wanted to put a OM617 in an old Chevy truck, hot rod the engine a little.

I swap a OM617 in my 02 Jeep tj I didn’t use the oil filter housing relocation adapter and i had a problem with killing starter so i had to put spacers on the starter so been driving it 3 mouths with no problem.

I have 50k on a mb4x4 kit for an ax15 with no issues, I believe my pilot bearing mounts in the factory flywheel and my drilled holes in my flywheel had plenty of material left on the edge. Maybe you recieved the wrong flywheel adaptor.

I wonder why they didn't design the adapter plate to be the correct thickness to compensate for the input shaft length. It seems like they cut every possible corner.

I see you're from Pennsylvania. Did you have to get a reconstructed title due to swapping in a diesel engine and how do you handle the emissions inspections? I am a Pa inspection mechanic and last year we received a bulletin making sure vehicles with these types of swaps were being ran through the enhanced inspection program and receive a reconstructed title. www.dot.state.pa.us/Public/DVSPubsForms/BMV/BMV%20Fact%20Sheets/Modified_Vehicle.pdf

What are you using for your fuel pump and tank? Interested in doing this to my 1 ton swapped zj
@KeystoneCarry4 жыл бұрын
I have the stock fuel pump housing in tank. I removed the electric pump and capped the lines. The Om617 has a factory mechanical lift pump on the injector pump. No need for a secondary pump on a jeep. Then I drilled a hole and ran a "dip tube" to the bottom of the tank and secured it to the fuel pump housing. I took measurements to keep it approximately 1/4" off the bottom of the tank. A rubber grommet and some epoxy seals the housing and the dip tube together. I ran 3/8" line for fuel supply and used 5/16" for return. There was an evap outlet on the passenger side of the fuel tank on top. I gutted that little check valve and used that as the fuel return port. Super simple and has worked great. I DO NOT recommend using the nipple from the fuel pump housing as the supply port. Its stamped steel meant to push fuel from the tank, not suck it. I had air issues, hence why I opted to make my own dip tube.
