It's not just an idler drive, EVERY turntable benefits from a very heavy plinth! And this is exactly why I think you're on the right track and you should be proud of these amazing pieces of craftsmanship! Even someone like Roy Gandy could learn a lot from these massive juggernauts!

Gandy has the exact opposite opinion. He believes the plinth should be as light & stiff as possible.

@@idiotdrummer60 Using belt drives to avoid transferring mechanical vibration from the motor, it's a design choice. Doesn't help with the drag all belt drives have. There's a video where Micheal Fremer showed this playing samples using identical tonearm and cartridge, if you're interested in hearing as direct a comparison as possible, where one of the turntables used is an OMA K3.

Have been using deep pour epoxy in my Lil' Pucker turntable and it is awesome for resonance cancellation.

This is very similar to what Ping does with their cast clubs and their “tuning port” cavity to dampen vibrations during and after impact. Smart

Really love the look of this plinth. I imagine shipping one over to Europe is a hefty sum in addition to the cost of the plinth itself... 😅

Cast iron is so heavy! We have these quite small enamel coated platers made of it at the restaurant I work at, and when I first started there, I was shocked how heavy they were considering their size. A bit like a solid platinum watch I suppose 🤷♂️

In a market that is demand, and ego oriented, these museum-piece design extremes mark that N(th) degree designers demand to set themselves apart from others considered run-of-the mill. I would in fact use an SP-10, housed in one, to broadcast a very powerful FM signal in tribute away from current hard-drive broadcasting we suffer today!🌹✨
@mediascapes20113 ай бұрын
What a curious ideas to use cast iron for turntable base, maybe with a looooot of damping and epoxi might help to mitigate the issues.

I suppose one can only contribute a truly valid criticism after they have compared their own equipment to the one being discussed here. Everything else would be pure supposition. 😎

In these times when the, earth is dying under our feet, the only thing that makes sense is to buy less and buy things that will last forever. Thank goodness for companies like OMA who make products that will outlive us all

No need for the plinth to be that heavy, even half that weight is more then sufficient. It’s a complete waste of material guy!
@BaileyWiggebutt3 ай бұрын
Yes and no. I had a bedroom system with two subwoofers which would cause distortion due to vibration and sometimes cause the stylus to actually bounce out of the vinyl grooves. You need a lot of mass to overcome these problems due to floors that aren’t fully dampened. My main system which was in the basement, on concrete floors and carpeting, didn’t have these vibration problems.
@melgross3 ай бұрын
Totally agree. I have the SP15 and designed my own plinth. It’s fairly heavy, but nit like that. What’s more important are the springs I designed for the bottom of the p,unthreaded. You can jump up and down while it’s working and nothing happens. That all you need. This is ridiculous.

The gatekeepers of objectivity claim there's no discernible difference between digital and analog audio. They point to empirical studies demonstrating listeners cannot distinguish the two apart despite millions of audiophiles who beg to differ. I personally find digital lacks the warmth and depth of yesterday's analog. In my 20s, I rationalized it as either a mood or age related hearing loss, but it wasn't until I experienced Hendrix again (no pun intended) on vinyl at a friend's home did I realize there's indeed a profound difference! The absurd effort you're putting into perfecting the sound of vinyl only adds evidence to my experience. If you're merely and knowingly selling snake oil to audiophiles then your efforts are profoundly moronic as there are far more profitable scams that don't incur astronomical shipping costs and a trip to the chiropractor. 😂
