This week, I’m taking on a piece of apple wood that’s seen better days-it’s cracked right down the middle. At first glance, it seemed like it might be too far gone, but hidden in the heartwood is something truly special: a pattern that looks just like a rose. I’ll be doing my best to tackle the challenges of the crack while letting the natural beauty of the wood shine through. I’m not sure how it will turn out, but I hope you’ll join me on this journey to uncover the hidden rose within.
Thanks for watching and feel free to leave comments in the chat below.

This is one of your top 5 pieces I think. I love when you make a simple shape and let the wood speak for you. And this one truly spoke volumes the way you got the natural lines lined up with the flow of the structure of the bowl itself. So beautiful, well done as always!

beautiful grain. I have always loved working with apple wood. I used to carve a fair amount of spoons from it and was always wonderful. Now I turn it whenever I have the chance. Ive always felt that the wood has a buttery feel once finished, and the way it naturally darkens over time is quite a treat as well.

Your result in this bit of turning is absolutely amazing. I love the overall shape of the resulting open-sided bowl. I like the elongated ellipse and the cut-down sides because of the way the original piece had been cut. You made optimal use of the grain and natural features of the wood. It's such a handsome piece. I can just imagine what it would look like on a shaker table or some of the other tables that I saw and ate and worked at in my youth. So to wrap up, congratulations on a wonderful piece. By the way, as an American, I really appreciate that you had support for this episode from an American group, the Woodworkers Guild of America. I'm definitely going to take them up on the discounted subscription. It is an astounding value.
