Have not visited CAPE TOWN, my home town in 11 years. Im in TURKEY, GOKSUN at the moment- After realizing that Cape Town Muslims has Turkish roots weaved in as well. What a small world and we are blessed by the unity in ISLAM. The reporter GOKSEN - and Effendi are clearly a Turkish. being mixed race and multicultural is awesome! No need to hate and discriminate- Jumu'ah Mubarak- to everyone in our global village.

This is so interesting . As someone born and raised in Cape Town I always knew of the Malay and Indonesian roots of Cape Town but hadn't really knew about the Turkish connection. I suppose Cape Town really is a little bit of everything .

We may be thousands mile apart, but from what I see, there are a lot of similarities with Malay wedding here in Malaysia i.e Nikah session, dowry discussion, gifts for both sides (hantaran perkahwinan), the reception especially the door gift, the makan beradap, the pelamin are all the same (of course the Malays in Malaysia also adopt some cultures from the Indians too). Kudos to the Malays in Cape Town for retaining and keeping the traditional Malay culture. Would love to visit Cape Town one day. My wish for the couple is to learn to tolerate one another and to never neglect the power of communication. Till jannah for both of you

The lady who makes the modern head gear for brides mentioned that in Cape Town, the girls won't go to a function without a scarf but in Johannesburg, the girls go to weddings without covering their hair. The lady herself is not wearing her scarf properly and the head gear she made is a tiny little decoration for the head... What is the purpose? The girls at this wedding wore scarves to cover some of their hair. Their necks are bare and so much hair hanging out of the scarf....at the back and front. Just as well, they did not wear scarf at all. What is the purpose of the scarf in Cape Town then? This is a misconception about hijaab. Anyway, hijaab is not just the covering of the head. My point is half a scarf is not better than no scarf. Also, a scarf on the head with tight jeans and short tops is also Not Hijaab. I also noticed on my visits to Capetown that some women wear short knee length skirts with their heads covered. Please ladies.... Cover your legs also! I really enjoyed the video. Thanks

So true..very hipocritical and judgemental. She shouldn't judge others, because how they wear their scarf is not right either.

Maybe by your standards the lady is not wearing her scarf 'correctly', but I'm sure Islam does not encourage either you or her to judge other's adherence to your respective standards. I'm a non-Muslim Capetonian, and have also noticed this habit of wearing short skirts with head covering. I mentioned this to an observant Muslim friend born in Bo-Kaap, who wears hijaab. She smiled and said gently, "we must never judge".

They are Malay exiles during Dutch occupation in Sumatra (nowadays part of Indonesia), then mixed marriage with Muslims of Subcontinents (Pakistan/India) Arabs and Africans, hence their cultures mixed already, but still some Malay words and cultures still part of Malay Cape language and cultures.

Stop talking about jhb girls not wearing hijab when your cape town girls are wearing bandanas... With all their hair sticking out, you best believe that that is simply NOT HIJAB.
