Why does everybody hate Jim!? Jim played his part in a bad-assed unique(In my opinion legendary) band, he was about as valuable to the band as Omar, Cedric, Paul, or Tony.

Try listening to ATDI without Jim's guitar (and vocals of course) and you'll hear Jim keep the band together. I guess I don't need to repeat that he's the founder of the band. Jim Ward is Punk in ATDI !!

jim is a huge part in atdi, listening to him and omar play completely different parts that sound great together is astounding, and his vocals really provide contrast to cedric's. thats why the reunion wasnt great (imo), they didnt have Jim, and Jim is a quintessential part of atdi.

Actually that's not why Cedric and Omar left At The Drive-In. They had left ATDI because they claimed it to be restricting, and they couldn't do all that they wanted to do. You should take some time to realize how awesome ATDI is, just think about it; that's the spark in which you could see the root of TMV through Omar's ability to warp the feel of Jim's rhythms to create something more. Without that begining, there'd be no mars volta :/

yeah TMV are more successful , but i love atdi much more. its loads more powerful. so u can say that jim hasnt been as successful or isnt as talented but he brought the punk and omar brought the experimental to the band without jim atdi would have been tmv. so it dont matter what you think of him hes partly responisble for one of the best albums of all time. Nothing comes close to Relationship of command! am i wrong ?

Well yeah, but in the end they all had different views on their future of the band. But yes you're right they were happy at the time. but now they chose their own courses. Jim and Tony went with Sparta and Cedric, Omar and Paul went with The Mars Volta.

If they weren't brought together the way they were, with each of their unique or predictable(branded by some) tastes in sound, then we wouldn't have the awesome sound of At The Drive-In. Sure Jim likes to talk, but Omar's true genius speaks through his music, and everybody else in ATDI through their extraordinary means of working together.

You only get smarter from the open minded ethic -Jim Omar: thinking about the big wide open shot of the ocean of the Mars Volta beating Motley Crue for Grammy's XD JK, JOKES ppl. It did happen, Mars Volta rocked. Saw At The Drive In unite, that ALSO rocked! :-D Payed $100 JUST to see them ^_^ Money well spent! I'm the guy screaming all the lyrics at Lolla! Sorry audio guy XD

Well I can see that many do have that perspective, but still, take into consideration that not all people like such complexity in music as the mars volta. Sure they're great! But there's millions who enjoy simplicity, both bands are very skilled in their genres; put aside favor through individuals and open your ears to expanded sound :) Everything can be good if you listen to it(Except rap).
