I think you nailed it. This would be a great way to start any street photography course. I do usually think about this type of thing before I go out. What do I feel like chasing today? how brave am I feeling? What is the light like? What lens do I feel like using? And then maybe picking 1 or 2 or 3 of these to focus on.

I'm still new to street photography and this is very helpful to someone who might be having an "identity crisis" as to what kind of photos they're more inclined to taking when out on the streets. But I've found that the best way to learn is to dive in, learn from experience and in time you'll know what you love and feel comfortable with shooting. It's a never ending journey and expect a lot of failures along the way 😊

That typology is nothing less than a contribution to photography theory! This is brilliant Omar - thanks so much for making this video. Equal parts informative and inspirational. So many times I’ve set out to do some street photography in my home city (Vancouver) without a clear idea of what to capture and ended up with nothing. This categorisation helps immensely. As an ex Sociology instructor I also like your description of the ‘mundane’ but would argue that there is a lot of extraordinary behaviour that can be captured in the apparently mundane.

True...I can see focusing on the "beauty of the mundane" as an entire series! Cheers. Thanks for the kind words.

Great video Omar! You sure took on a big task here but managed to kick its butt. I agree with you on everything except for the "story" aspect. This is surely an important aspect to the best street photos as you said but I wouldn't consider it a separate category (e.g. your "interesting captured life" could definitely carry stories). Perhaps instead of "story" I'd suggest "extraordinary moments". I think your sub-categories fit well under that umbrella. I'll show myself out now on my search for the serendipitous... keep up the great work!
@ogonzilla4 жыл бұрын
I'll take that edit. I see your point. But, I definitely was getting a different vibe from good "life" photographs (that capture humans interacting with the environment in history...like kids playing) versus a SCENE of some kind that triggers something in your brain to WANT TO KNOW MORE. Maybe I could have called it that! lol. Cheers
@davidkastelan32064 жыл бұрын
@@ogonzilla I get what you're saying. No matter what, the boundaries between categories are fuzzy. Maybe we need a street photography Venn diagram. That'd be an undertaking.
