Pour moi, PHILIPPE JAROUSSKY est le Meilleur Contre Ténor du Siècle... Sa Voix limpide nous fait "oublier" un peu les Cruautés et les Folies de ce Monde ! J'aime beaucoup ce Chanteur Lyrique... Parfois, il se déguise pour jouer le rôle de son Personnage ! Évidemment, c'est très Amusant pour tous ses Admirateurs qui sont venus pour l'entendre interpréter un Opéra de VIVALDI, HAENDEL, BACH... Quant à lui, sa Passion et sa Patience, lui font ''subir'' des Heures, pour un Superbe Maquillage qui le rend Méconnaissable ! I think you mean the flourishes & decoration he added to the melody. They are likely to be Jaroussky's own). That was the practice for singers of Handel's time - right into that of Rossini. One composer (& might have been Rossini himself) complained (probably tongue in cheek) that a famous singer had added so much decoration to one of his arias that the composer himself didn't recognise the original melody. He also added that the the singer's version was "better"!!!

An angelic voice without a doubt. But as an opera singer myself, I have to ask “where is the technique?” In my opinion awards should not just be given for a gift of the unusual if it is not properly developed and trained, especially when it is not even to the standard of those who work a lifetime with no hope of singing in a setting such as this.

Overly sentimental compared with eg Iestyn Davies, in my view, especially the accompaniment but also the excessive vibrato at the top of Jaroussky's register - Davies has a much purer sound.

I prefer Andreas Scholl for this aria - PJ sounds more like a soprano in his upper register, and his excessive ornamentation does the piece little service. That said, his Schertza Infida is unparalled for raw emotion.

It’s a pretty voice, but he doesn’t really have a technique. No line no trail no lower breath connection and mediocre diction. It’s a sad thing when someone like this can win awards

This is a very difficult piece to sing because of the range and required legato. I'm a soprano, and I know! I don't like that much embellishment, but I think he does a good job on this. It's hard to sustain the energy and stay on pitch.
