If the day ever comes when I need one of those twig thingies that's the day I stop fishing and take up golf. I firmly believe carp deserve a chance. If they get away with it then so be it. It adds to the challenge and, for me, that is what it's all about.

So if your line snaps or the knot gives above this thing you leave the fish dragging a plastic grappling hook around that could end up killing the fish. The design looks like it could be deadly.

The lazy carp anglers’ self-hooking device - for those that can’t think outside the box in order to put a few more fish on the bank. Not catching is all part of it - it’s how you learn as an angler and progress. Hopefully, this contraption (and that’s exactly what it is) falls into obscurity. Historic (?) - MY ARSE!

@danielmorris3446

@s1opp yep. Soon as a hook goes in deep enough they usually bolt.. there's also 2 parts of the clip, one where the twig triggers and the Carp takes a few seconds to bolt (exactly as they do with a normal rig) the other the Carp hooked and slowly drifts off

We've moved from skillfully fishing with float, stalking, freelining, and ledgering to various bolt rigs where the fish basically hook themselves to end up now relying on a spring loaded trap that hooks the fish for you. To me... this is the pits. Our Eastern European friends might like them to help with their Sunday lunch though.
@CWCarp
@CWCarp Жыл бұрын
A point of clarification please......if the device is triggered by the 'forward' weight of force stated on the different packs then I presume you need a greater or equal opposite force (ie the lead or a tight line) to make it trigger?.......so will a 1oz lead on a slack line still trigger the lightest 4.5oz version of device or would that be dependant on the amount of force a fish uses in shaking its head once it feels the hook, ie. would the fish need to exert 4.5 times the force of the 1oz lead to overcome the trigger?......which to my mind means, that the mechanics of the twig are still very much reliant on a sharp hook and decent end rig to make the initial contact, the twig only comes in to play when the hook link is at full stretch ........on a personal note the whole twig looks longer than a lot of rigs I use... EDIT: Some additional thoughts to the above.......Once a fish has pricked its self with sufficient force for the hook to take hold and has moved away for the length of the hook link and then exerted enough force to trigger the twig, how much force is exerted by the recoil of the spring in the twig to set the hook further in to the fish's mouth?......it strikes me that a spring of that size will not have sufficient 'recoil' force to counteract the weight of a moving fish, so driving the hook home is still reliant on the weight of the lead being dragged by the fish via the braided link inside the twig with the spring itself being at full stretch......holding the twig and releasing the hook bait so the spring recoils is all well and good but that isn't what happens in reality......Its more likely that the spring pulls the lead towards the hook rather than the hook towards the lead as the hook end has the weight of the fish in its favour and most Carp definitely weigh more than a lead....

Hats off to you Ali for producing a product that gives us anglers an extra edge however, theres a big concern that i like many club waters have which has resulted in the product already being banned... which is, is it safe for the fish? If someone cracks off on cast leaving the entire rig active, if it hooks a fish the lead will drop off but surely that leaves the fish dragging around the open twig system which is then likely to catch on a snag? As much as i like you and the product, fish safety must come first and im yet to see anything from omc covering this with the product
@SwedishEgg1

@@SwedishEgg1 yeah and that was my response to them too. This has been banned on every lake in my area within 30miles guessin its the same for most others. How is this safe for a start the arms are going to get caught in the landing net and cause damage to the mouth of the fish. Looking at it the fish can lose the lead and the lead clip but looks like it will still have the hooklink like normal and then it will also have the twig with it whats stopping that from getting caught in weed or other line due to the arms sticking out. Also its got the perfect front cover for it showing the twig dont work as its not even gone off.

Seems like a simple and minor redesign would fix the snagging issues that have caused these to be banned at many places. If the arms were joined to the body using thin bits of plastic which act as compliant hinges then they could bend all the way back & forth to prevent snagging. The body would also need a protrusion under the 'hinge' just after the attachment point for the arm to press against to allow it to apply tension to the latch. I hope that makes sense. I'd attach a diagram but youtube doesn't like links in comments.

The mechanics of it dont make sense to me. In order for the spring to engage, pressure in the opposite direction needs to be applied in order to pull the locking arms loose. This pressure is already applied by the fish once the spring is free to "spring" back, meaning that its not really doing much. I hope this makes sense. The pressure to activate it is equal to the tension of the spring meaning that the spring is doing nothing. Am i wrong?

I'm not saying it's not effective. I haven't used it... but... correct me if I'm wrong. Look at the photo that they're super proud of. That fish is HOOKED. It's properly done. Right through the lip. Now look at the Magic Twig (they've even circled it for you) it's still loaded. It's not gone off yet. That fish was hooked regardless of if you had a Magic Twig, a normal twig, an old shoelace or anything else attached to it. It's the same with the other video. It's just giving it a little pull on the face once it's already hooked and helping to set it more securely... but it's not doing what he's saying it is in that video.

I am convinced this will get more fish on the bank. Curious to see what happens in case of line breakage . Would only be fish safe if the rig line would be the weakest link of the total, so fished with light rigs. As far as I can see the big fish in the video seems to feel the hook and turn away before it activated.

As a new angler, this is in the same bracket as bait boats and poles for me. You don't need to strike, don't need to cast and so on. Why not just pay someone to go fishing for you and send you some pictures lol. I appreciate more experienced people will disagree but my perspective must be a common one among newer folk.

you should make this in the lead, not such a large extra piece of plastic. Something where you pull it out of the lead and clipping it. Then the pins are also not catching weeds. Something of a variant of the pb inline leadclip.

@gheslop3440
@gheslop3440 Жыл бұрын
@gwl78 I always drop the lead, especially on weedy waters. The fish comes straight to the top and doesn't hug the deeper water like they tend to with the lead attached. A lot easier to play and land the fish and I haven't had a snagged/lost fish since I started dropping leads
@tonysmall3863

@@gheslop3440isn’t it a tad unnecessary to drop leads if there’s no weed or snags? Surely that’s just a waste of money.
@gheslop3440

@tonysmall3863 I predominantly fish less weedy waters but I find the fish coming straight into the upper layers of the water once the lead has dropped, lands me more fish. I'd rather lose a £2 lead per fish than risk losing a fish by not dropping the lead. Plus, the lakes I fish I'd be lucky to land more than 4 fish in a session so that's not even £10 lost. Worth it in my opinion, each to their own though

As a carp angling community we really need to put a stop to tactics such as this that give the carp no chance of outwitting the angler. It's a sport where the carp should always be one step ahead. Overstocked lakes, angling pressure, drones, bait boats and tactics such as this, give the carp no chance of escape and it's bordering on cruelty.

Instantly, I think the massive first failure is the fact that the arms open like an anchor facing where the fish would be dragging it. Surely it would have been wiser to have them opening away from the fish. The way these are designed would mean the fish dragging into snags and underwater plants, that would cause serious damage to the carps mouths. Or they would snap. These things are not exactly cheap, 2 for around £12. You know your stuff Ali, and I have a lot of respect but, I think this is a bad design (maybe try it with concealed arms that don't pop out) and, does it really give you that much edge? I think the hardest part of carp fishing, is getting the fish to put the food in it's mouth and not cheating by locking it in if it does!! Also, for this to be really effective, you would have to use barbed hooks, which I am really against!!

Regardless of if this product is succesful or not, more people now know about OMC for better or for worse. Ali is a marketing man, this product will undoubtedly fail and be gathering dust in many tackle shops in years to come but either way, this launch will be a success for him.
