Just seen them at Leeds, about the 5th time now. Saw them in the 80s, 90s and 2000s, so still relevant today, and their music never dates. New Wave at its best. Even Kraftwerk came to see them, no doubt see what their competition was.

I remember this like it was yesterday (I'm actually writing this 35 years and 1 day since the gig). I was a student in Sheffield and I remember hearing the announcement about the show on Radio1 one Saturday morning and that the tickets were on sale that day, I legged it straight to the City Hall and got front row. That's me in the black shirt next to the guy in the red shirt. Leadmill after the show and missed the bus back to Ranmoor Hall so had to walk.

Sounds like a great night, in those days, we all missed the last bus and walked home.

@@gabe_chuThe atmosphere was absolutely brilliant. Andy`s stamina I could never grasp as his dancing and singing were superb. He still tries to create those days with a more sedate dance, as he is now exhausted by his singing ... he is however 64!

Funny you should say that. In 1981/2 Paul and Andy felt that the recording they did for the b side of Joan of Arc couldn’t be bettered, which is why they didn’t re-record it for Dazzle Ships. Interesting the OMD drummer, Malcolm Holmes, wasn’t involved in the original recording. So I’d say the reason why you prefer this live version is because he is performing on it. He is a fantastic drummer who I have greatly missed from the last two OMD albums.

On Wednesday I was walking through Meols to take a picture in the phone booth( telephone Box), then I passed in front of Andy's parents' house and from there I walked to Red Rocks on Stanley road, they say Andy McCluskey lives there, it was very cold in the Stanley road but I liked it and it was worth it.

I was there and thought the Weir brothers were terrific, they added another dimension to a brilliant band.
@eightiesmusic198411 ай бұрын
They added a lot to the band's sound and should have been used more. But it did not transpire. I think they released a lot of good music and very poor music. The first album is awful in my view, including Electricity and Messages. Electricity sounds so amateurish and poorly produced, while Messages is cringeworthy in lyrics and the way it sounds so gauche and dissonant. I always thought eclecticism was the key to OMD's success and appeal, and still do. But at the same time it meant that a lot of tracks that should not have even been recorded ended up on albums.

Congratulations to the joint international launch of James Webb spaaaaaace telescope. BIG LOVE TO OMD. I saw them back in the early 80s in a tiny little space on the University of Washington campus HUB. Expecting to be in musical euphoria, but live music boredom compared to all the frenzy of punk rock I was used to. SURPRISE. They are as, or more, exciting as any band in a big or small space I've seen. PLUS they got the musical goods.

while i love the live footage...and i also appreciate the interview/bio material....i find it TRAGIC that the makers of this program felt the need to intercut the live footage with the interview/bio footage, effectively ruining the feeling of experiencing their live show. what possessed them to do this, when they could have simply appended the interview/bio footage to the end of the concert (or even to the beginning)? not only would it have kept the live show intact, but it would also have been much easier, faster, and cheaper as well. i honestly think that the people who insisted on chopping up live shows with chunks of non-live footage were neither music fans nor fans of the performers. they had a different agenda.

For me Crush was the begining of the end for OMD, they were trying to hard to get into the US market, they cancelled Euopean dates to tour in America. Their sound became aimed at commercial radio, and was wishy washy. Not all of it was rubbish, but a fair bit was just really poor. Since their comeback, the new stuff has been very samey, and naff. Bland, dull and no imagination, just re-hashes of rehashes. I blame it partly on Andy writing disposable crap for Atomic Kitten. He became really lazy with his writing, using a stale and tired formula. Paul just does as he is told. Sad really, because they were an amzing band live, from 1985/86 on wards the music pretty dull.

Paul just doesnt do as he is told he is an integral part of the band produces
@paulmca85143 ай бұрын
@@danielremillard1016 I disagree, but respect your view. Since the " return " it`s mainly been the Andy show, may be joint writing credits on the tracks, but Paul is Andy`s straight man unfortunately-maybe that`s the way they want it.
