Great comparison, great riffs too! They've updated both within the year, the V1.5 Obsidian got most of the good voicing from the Granophyre now, very similar upper mids to this video. Mine just got built and I fired it up this morning. I came on the 'Tube to remember the old Obsidian since I sold my V1 6 mos ago. I would hazard to say you'd be hard pressed to tell the diff between the new Grano and Obsidian versions on a vid these days, the difference is there's uber more detail in the Obsidian if you want, but now you can dial it scratchy like many of us non-perfectionist (cough*sloppy*) players prefer! (which is how the Grano always has been=and that's a good thing for most 🤙)

I go back and forth tbh. Depends on my mood haha. But really it sorta also depends on the guitar and pickups. The Obsidian is a bit more consistent but the Grano in my experience has been more varied when I swap guitars.

First off thanks for the video(cool riffing). The Granophyre is on my bucket list(until the next new shiny object appears). It's amazing how much different one amp can sound, from one demo to another.

Ya all these KZbin demos, mine included, need to be taken with a grain of salt. There are so many variables (style of playing, pickups, tuning, guitar, cab/speakers, mics, etc) that will affect how an amp sounds. Thanks for watching!

I own a grano but have played the obsidian a few times. The obsidian is a slight bit bottom heavy over the grano IMO. Mike builds incredible amplifiers.

Over truck speakers you can hear the bottom end difference really well

I preferred the obsidian overall. It seemed more balanced sounding imo. granophyre felt thicker and middier/fizzier from the clips

It's interesting how much the KZbin compression affects the tone once these videos get uploaded. The Granophyre in the room and in my Pro Tools session when I was editing the clips isn't as fizzy. As I've said with previous videos YT demos are to be taken with a grain of salt! Thanks for watching!

They both fill the room well. The obsidian cleans are really good. Not sure what I’d compare to. Definitely better than any Mesa clean I’ve experienced.

Thanks for the content but i think an in-depth comparison would be much better. Use an IR, boosts and aswell as desired settings and flat eqs, a tone match of either desired amp. Something is off with the audio in this clip. The tones aren’t that good imo, and we know these are monsters 🤷‍♂️

You mean like John's overprocessed IR amp "reviews" where all the amps sound the same? I don't think you offended him as much as that was a pretty Dunning-Kruger comment, I don't think you have enough experience to make suggestions, and that's not to offend, it's honesty. That is exactly how my old Granophyre and current Obsidian sound. This is a review for people who play amps, not remove all impurities in post. I can make a Line 6 Spider sound God Tier through an IR and a little post.... that does nobody in the market any good.
