In my Tovolar deck, I have the werewolves in clear sleeves on the side, and in the deck I put a bunch of the cards that came in draft packs for making the double faced cards. Helps so much to avoid having to sleeve and unsleeve.

I run a Tovolar deck and I love it so so much; a bunch of werewolves and wolf token makers and you are good to go. Avabruck Caretaker is a good card too; on the werewolf side each creature you control gets hexproof AND 2 +1 counters on combat. Little on the pricey side but very much worth it!

Yea, I instantly wanted to build this deck the moment he was spoiled, but by the end of the day, I realized just how tedious his design was. It’s a great commander if this was a computer game, but physically keeping track of day/night while flipping every card, on top of tracking all the normal abilities of each creature… it’s a terrible physical design.

I love it. I actually run a bunch of combat tricks in mine and have a couple creatures that aren't werewolves. I run Karlach for extra combat and general marhault (the guy who gives your creature +3+3 for each creature that blocks it). I run dolmen gate, bear umbra and aggravated assault along with rage reflection and gruul charm (usually choosing creatures without flying can't block). Had to do this cuz the power level of my group (mostly running phyrexians) just got too high.

I know it’s a pet peeve for people to flip werewolves but I love the feeling of flipping over the werewolves makes them feel more like an event that their flipped and I have alt art for most of them so they look even cooler

Edit: I also tore apart the Tyranid deck for the plus one plus one counters and shadow in the warp is far to good to not include makes people really think twice about their rampant spell slinging and although it’s 2 dmg it adds up especially if the game goes on for too long

Finally a decent werewolf commander! I was just going through my cards and i found a ton of interesting wolf/werewolf cards and i was bummed that there isnt a decent commander(that i knew of). Thanks for changing that 😃 Question for you/the community: How do we get around the day/night mechanic? You cannot rely on players casting no spells to transform your cards and players play 2 spells per turn all the time. So my question is how do we transform at will? Obviously the commander and the golden pig deal with this but thats not a reliable way to get my werewolves sorted out. And once my commander is ALREADY transformed, how do i get my new permanents to transform WITHOUT the day/night mechanic?
@farfetchdideas69511 ай бұрын
You don't. This deck and the day/night mechanic are tied at the hip. The good news is the newer werewolves come in already transformed if it's night due to the Nightbound ability. The bad news is the older werewolves still work off old flip mechanics and essentially rely on Tovolar and Immerwolf to flip them and keep them flipped. As long as you can keep Tovolar on the field he will reliably keep your wolves flipped at the start of your turns though. The Celestus and Unnatural Moonrise can also immediately flip it to night to the benefit of the newer werewolves.
@v02max7511 ай бұрын
@@farfetchdideas695 so does boss man flip back over every turn so we can re use the front side? If he pops all the werewolves every turn, it's less of an issue. I just figured that it was a one and done thing, unless he flips for the night mechanic, obvs
@farfetchdideas69511 ай бұрын
@@v02max75 He flips everytime it switches between day and night. His Daybound side turns it to night and transforms all human werewolves at the beginning of your upkeep if there are at least 3 wolves/werewolves on your field. So yeah, he'll for the most part keep all your wolves flipped to the preferred side on your turns. Moonmist is an instant that can transform all your werewolves too. The deck wants to run a lot of flash and instants to spread your mana usage out into your opponent's turns to avoid flipping back to day at the end of your turn. Howling Moon buffs your wolves and gives you a wolf token everytime your opponent's cast their second spell. Fury of the Horde is an outstanding card in the deck, allowing a surprise second combat when you draw into it off Tovolar, and pairs nicely with Unnatural Growth. Ill-tempered Loner is an all-star in the deck, his Nightbound side allowing your wolves to reflect damage back at opponent's and winning games outright when paired with Blasphemous Act. Avabruck Caretaker, Hollowhenge Overlord, and Primal Vigor are also some good cards to add.

Don’t forget Geir Reach Bandit, which can make any werewolf transform upon entering the battlefield. You can also get Vivian, Champion of the Wilds or another card that helps you cast all your creatures with flash so you can at least play your spells on turns that are not your own and make sure your puppers get to stick around in their furry forms a little longer.

The only problem i have with immerwolf is that it prevents Tovolar from transforming back to human then bringing new werewolves transformed back over with him, unless you have a way to consistently make it night/ transform humans it relies too much on your opponents not casting spells. Ive just found it a hindrance when ive played it most games.
@atrainthedonofphila11 ай бұрын
Mitch I like everything except the immerwolf it clashes with tovolar whom you want on huma side to transform the new werewolves and you need extra combat spells as well
@The1nvisibleJeevas11 ай бұрын
Yeah, a deck like this comes with a bunch of unwritten rules. There is an ideal combo of creatures you can have on the field. 1. Gier Reach Bandit, transformed 2. Howlpack Piper, not transformed 3. Immerwolf You basically get to just keep tapping Piper to put werewolves on the field, transform them instantly, and make sure they don’t transform back.

question, if tovolar is in the command zone, the effect applies? it becomes night if I have 3 wolves in place? or is it necessary to have it on the battlefield to apply the effect?

This is sweet! I built my first ever deck earlier this year and it was wolf/werewolf tribal with Tovolar as commander. This video gave me some great ideas to improve it and make it a bit more consistent. I honestly don't find the day/night mechanic that bad as long as you're attentive to what other people are playing.
@galford909 ай бұрын
It seems great, but I NEED to watch someone playing this to believe people will not mess with your board every turn. It's really hard to believe especially in a 4 player match that your werewolves won't turn back to normal on your turn. There aren't that many pieces that change back to night or keeps at night. Only watching someone playing this I would believe it would be fun

I wanted to build a Tovolar Deck, but then I looked into how many decent Werewolfs the game has, and the amount is very low... So you basically have no real opinion to make a unique twist on that commander, and chances are when you are building this Deck to be kind of good, it will be the same Deck as every other Tovolar Deck, with minimal differences at best... And just like that, I was bored
