I agree that it looks better in the metal, and the level of quality in terrms of the movement and finish are absolutely on par, if not better in some respects with Rolex. Though personally i'd spring the extra $3k for the blue dialled grade 5 titanium version as the ss version's band is a scratch-magnet

I like the SM300 but the limited edition 39mm not this one. I noticed at 9:43 in your video when you were turning the crown and the hands were moving passed 6 o'clock that the hour and minute hands are out of time. When the minute hand is at 12 o'clock, the hour hand is already past the 6 o'clock marker. This is the sort of thing I've notice on the SKX but is completely inexcusable on an Omega.

I don’t want to start my comment with a list of my watches, but I own a large collection including Patek, AP, Blancpain, F P Journe and Rolex. I bought this model on a whim and also on a tan leather strap. I have to say that pound for pound it is a fantastic piece and holds up very well against my other watches. Though I appreciate your comments, I find very little to criticise the watch on, other than it not having a quick release strap change system. I have worn mine on a fagliano leather and nato strap and it looks ace on all of them. It’s a keeper for sure and possibly a future classic

The 2021 updated version addressed all my concerns and I now think it's pretty much the perfect diver. It's now thinner, has the updated twin barrel movement, lollypop hand from the SPECTRE edition but with the proper unidirectional dive bezel, brushed centre links (polished outside) and a much cleaner 3D effect sandwich dial. Would be interested to know if it changed your mind too.
@tods.99474 жыл бұрын
Sam, it does matter what you think. But in this case you are wrong! I think that this is a stunning looking watch. Just beautiful. I’m also in love with the execution on the Blancpain 50 Fathoms so this Omega speaks to me, especially with what is under the hood with that awesome coaxial movement.

@mannycalavera23354 жыл бұрын
I get your critique. But I can't help but love this model. It has a lot of things I would typically avoid. The case is thick. It has faux patina. It has a weird 21mm lug width. The dial is simple without applied indices. It has no date. But, this is why watches make no sense to me. While it consists of all these parts I would often avoid, together they make a watch I love. The dial is clean. The watch combines a modern look with a classic heritage nod. And there is an overall symmetry and simplicity to both the case and dial design that I find satisfying. Regarding the vintage model. I think that is a stellar watch as well, and I had the opportunity to compare them head to head. The vintage (LE) model really presents as, well, a vintage watch in perfect condition. While this 300 coaxial presents more like a modern dive watch with 50's inspired design elements. On the 300 coaxial the dial is cleaner and a bit better executed with the sandwich style and slightly textured dial, and it has the liquidmetal bezel. Also the faux patina on the LE version is heavier (darker orange). This is something I don't like, but goes well with the design (actually looks like aged tritium). Overall, both the upgraded dial and bezel would not look right on the LE version. I think it was the right move to do two separate models with these design elements.

The Casual Watch Reviewer - Omega knows how to cater to a wider range of the market and meet the buyer at their terms. Rolex tried to box everybody in and jam a square peg into a round hole. Along with the size of the case and how it wears around my 7" wrist, it just gives it more character on the nato. The liquidmetal ceramic bezel along with the silver inner ring within the bezel is absolutely stunning. The laser cut out hour markers with the lume filled in is so nicely executed as well along with the nice sandblasted dial. The watch has all these technical modern details that needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. Well if it's good enough for Bond, it's good enough for me 😉

I really like this watch in overall design. Much better looking than the other SM watches. Only design elements that I don’t like are the bracelet ( I’m not a fan of Omega’s steel bracelets), too much polish and lug ends. It looks like someone cut the lug ends off with a knife. They would look much better and fluid if they were rolled down like the lug ends on the other watch. Well, I got some files.

Hey Sam, good review but i was conflicted watching it. I'd often agree with your points - ie the bezel on the earlier watch is more interesting than the bezel on the newer variant - but then I'd disagree with you on how much i cared about that. I felt you were often reviewing the watch for what it wasnt rather than what it was. I suppose no matter how much we like Jan, its always Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
Yep, I suppose I do feel like this watch was a missed opportunity. Also I think they went just a little to chunky with the design. For my taste it doesn’t wear well. Its not just this well loved one I feel like that about. I don’t think the speedy MKII wears well or for that matter the Rolex deep sea for my wrist anyway. Do you think I should do more opinion reviews like this than just the standard reviews?
@PeteMcConvillWatches4 жыл бұрын
@@CasualWatchReviews Absolutely, anything a bit different is welcome. If I may make a suggestion, if you are going for a more 'subjective' review - which as I said would be great - explore your own feelings and try and chase down why something does or doesn't appeal. Too many reviewers frankly hide behind 'its just my opinion' which tells us bugger all. For example when you say for your taste it doesnt where well, what does that mean. Is that looks or feel or both? Does it overhang and look ungainly or feel top heavy and wobbly? These things are still 'just' subjective but give the viewer a much richer picture.

I have the latest version of this. It is by far my favourite piece, if I have a criticism it is too small. I have 8” wrists and would dearly love it in 43 or 44mm as that size fits me best. I also have an Aqua Terra, again slightly small, but it eats the Rolex OP in my opinion. I agree about the precious metals, not something I would bother to buy, but that’s a matter of taste. Oddly many of the things you don’t like are reasons why I have it! It does have a certain vintage charm, can go anywhere and definitely isn’t flashy, a bit like me really……………………

Thanks for commenting. I don’t agree this has the best technologies? The coaxial movement this watch has is in a lot of other omega watches? I would also argue that ‘technology’ wise the seiko spring drive is much more advanced. Ulysse Nardin also have more technologically advanced movements including a ‘rotator’ system called the Grinder system that winds the watch when nearly any movement is made not just clockwise or counterclockwise. Have you seen one of these watches in person?

It’s a beautifully executed watch. I wear mine on the original bond nato (however I cut the extra keeper off- making it fit slimmer in height) which makes it fit my wrist like it was designed around me. As far as the cream colored lume, it’s perfect. Who ever said lume must be stark white? New lume will NEVER patina, not on Rolex or any other modern watch. I don’t think stark white is attractive. The fit and finish is impeccable. And it wears smaller then 41mm, maybe because it actually is. There is a bezel overhang of a mm or two, making the case of the watch 39mm (I believe) This is the most beautiful watch I’ve owned. Accuracy is incredible. Yep, I’m a fan for sure. One thing I don’t care for is the bracelet. Too polished and the end link adds to the lug-to-lug length that some might dislike. Totally different on a nato (which is the only way I wear mine, although it’s attractive on the leather strap as well)

Not a fan of faux aged pieces . Even a deep black dial 20mm lugswith no polished centre links a little less less chunky and perhaps green indices it would look killer . Faux has been done to death...
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brain, I would tend to agree with you. I don't think it looks that great in most cases. Also whats weird to me is that the aging look is mimicking radium.. that was a highly carcinogenic material that a lot of watch and clock dial painters died from. I'm not sure how much of a nostalgic romantic feeling you can get about it when you think of it in those terms.

Ok,let me tell you why you may be wrong. I say,maybe,because you're likely, correct me if I'm wrong, a desk diver,or a KZbinr, with a knowledge of watches. Good for you. Seriously, no animosity. I,on the other hand, am a Capt. Of a 50 year old Allied Chance 30-30 Bluewater racing sailboat. Google it. I know quality. I built mega yachts for 10 years. I've been living on a sailboat for 12 years. I dive. I've been diving since 1973, about the same time I learned to sail. I wear the watch. I wear it every day,and it'll take a beating. Do I have gripes? Yep, I do. The lum,is weak,and the case back is unnecessary but as long as it doesn't fail ? Who cares ? I see bucket loads of Rolexs. If you're not familiar with mega yachts, Google it. While i have no problem with a submariner, it's an awesome watch, but so is a Seiko turtle, which I've owned since 1984. It's a watch. As a dive tool,it's redundant,but i still work my tables, and compare my results with the computer. I have awesome electronics, on my sailboat, but i navigate by compass, and the watch. Usually off,by less than 1°,but turn east,I'll hit Florida. The main reason I decided on this particular watch is,i don't see em,and they're not a "Look at me" watch. Not 1 person, has noticed it. I know what it is. I'm testing it's capabilities, and I've told you my gripes,up to now. If I find others? I'll be the first to call BS. ,but just to offer a personal opinion, on something you haven't put to an honest, day to day test, over an extended period of time, seems disingenuous,or at best,uninformed. Just my opinion. Capt.Bob, SV 27th Chance. Tampa, FL. USA

@hollysignore88222 ай бұрын
Agreed! I have the version in 18k Sedna gold. I found a quality rubber strap to swap out for the alligator leather and still use the great buckle so it really can be my daily watch. I live in Florida too, so a leather strap doesn’t work for me with all this water and humidity. And the best thing about it…like you said…no one notices it or knows what it is except me.

We can agree to disagree then! The gold clearly didn’t sell too well as they discontinued it. Also omega make a rose gold aqua terra cheaper. Just to also add, they are a gold alloy Omega created not solid gold.

I used to really want this model because of the similar look to the original 1957 Seamaster and then they came out with the limited 1957 reissue in 2017 and I bought one of those instead! The reissue 1957 is such a better designed watch.

How is it Click-bait, I discuss exactly the reasons why I don't love this watch? The title is exactly what the upload is about.
@TheShockwave444 жыл бұрын
@@CasualWatchReviews Where? All you said was you didn't like that it didn't look exactly like the original.
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hey William, did you watch the whole thing, I actually said the words 'this is one I don't love' in the intro. I explain the reasons why I don't love it for the entire upload, its the narrative of the entire thing. Its not like I titled it 'Omega's ultimate disaster that will ruin the company' or some BS like that. In case you want to read up on it Wikipedia defines Click- bait as: Clickbait, a form of false advertisement, uses hyperlink text or a thumbnail link that is designed to attract attention and to entice users to follow that link and read, view, or listen to the linked piece of online content, with a defining characteristic of being deceptive, typically sensationalized or misleading. Click-bait is not 'creating a title that is exactly what the upload is about'
@TheShockwave444 жыл бұрын
@@CasualWatchReviews Yeah you mentioned once how you don't like it and praised it the rest of the video. Post a time stamp where you talk about why you don't like it other than it doesn't look like the original.
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don’t know if your trying to troll me here or what but the entire upload talks about the things I don’t love about it, the lume, the proportions, its departure from the original and the crazy prices of the precious metal ones. In all my years on KZbin and the hundreds of uploads I have made no one has ever accused me of click-bate so I can only assume you clearly didn’t watch it.

Because someone has a manly wrist and doesn't want to own a submariner hommage and likes precise amagnetic coax decorated movment with display sapphire caseback,bracelet with microadjust and superb finishing.This watch is obviusly a step above the bb.I think it's rather competitive for the sub. No offense it's only my opinion.
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
You can’t say ‘no offense’ then imply that only people with a ‘manly’ wrist can wear this, what does that even mean? Regardless of your wrist size its the proportions of the watch that are off in my opinion.
@petercsicsics26634 жыл бұрын
@@CasualWatchReviews Of course i can,i just did.And that's mean not everybody sweetspot ends at 40mm. That is because i think the proportion of that watch just perfect .If that bothers you I am sorry.I just tried to explain for Richard why other people buying that ,instead of a bb.Still no offense!
@CasualWatchReviews4 жыл бұрын
Péter Csicsics you want to try and word things a bit better then. Your choice of language was abrasive not what your point was. I have plenty of watches over 40mm. I had the Speedmaster for 12 years at 42mm. Do you own this watch or have you seen it in person? I’m just curious as the dark side of the moon is similarly proportioned to this and it wears a lot better.

Great review Sam! I love the design of this watch, really gives me that vintage vibe! Whoever they did to a little overboard with the fauxtina and the 21mm lug width is a clear miss! Loving the new editing BTW!!

Yep, I think Omega are going heavy handed with the vintage fauxtina.
