When selecting an Omega Seamaster you have a surprising amount of choices, but the two most popular models are probably the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m Professional and the Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage. And, when it comes time to pick one, which is the King of all Omega Seamasters?

I bought the Heritage Model when it first came out. It was the second watch I purchased from my AD when I was building a spend history to so at some point in the future I could get considered for Rolexes and not have to go to the Gray Market. I love this watch, I wear it more than any Rolex I own. The thing I think you missed on your excellent review, is the watch is flat out Cool, but doesn’t look like a flex. You just feel great wearing it.

I got the 300 heritage in blue recently and it’s simply elegant with a little bit of flash. Dinner lights throw a dark lust purple at the right angle that is very pleasing highlighted by the fotina markers that gives a great color palette match😉

I bought the heritage in blue a few weeks ago. I actually love how the dial changes depending on the angle that its looked at. It is a stunning shade of blue and I love that it isn't instantly recognisable as a Seamaster due to the lack of helium escape valve. Very classy, very understated. Quiet luxury and what a movement.

If I’m honest, the too-large size and the lack of bracelet taper really hold back the Seamaster Pro, and the high price for a retro Seamaster 300 Heritage are both why I’d rather buy a Tudor Pelagos 39, or a Black Bay 58, if the latter would come with the T-Fit clasp. I always feel like there’s a fly in the ointment with Seamasters.
@JustBlueFish

Omega needs a 39mm Seamaster Pro, with a 47mm wingspan, and a bit of taper on the bracelet, and I'm a buyer if it stays under $6k.

I bought the heritage in black…wears better, no date, better movement with hour jumping feature and double barrels, tapered bracelet and lumed bezel all did it for me. The dial furniture is obviously snazzier on the pro and that is the only reason I could’ve been swayed. That is what we are looking at most of the time anyway but went for the 300.

Fair Point. I have a 7 1/2 inch wrist and the Omegas SMP 300 fits me perfect. Yes it is a bit chunkier but not Invicta chunky. I get a ton of compliments on it too. I have owned a Rolex sub 16610 and it was my first Rolex I ever bought when I was in my early 20's. (yes at discount like the old timers brag about). I enjoyed it very much but I could never get a modern/current sub. No plane jane sub is worth 10k and the current one are much beefier than the older models. Plus, it does get boring seeing everyone rocking a Rolex Sub and is a big buzz kill.
@JustBlueFish
@JustBlueFish Жыл бұрын
I think 7" and above wrists will love the SMP 300, and honestly even smaller if the guy (or gal) likes a bit of a beefier look. I tend to prefer slim and streamlined watches which the Heritage model has - but the dial is just a deal killer for me.
@bber45
@bber45 Жыл бұрын
@@JustBlueFish yeah that's why I like the old school Sub. Has more of a slimmer feel and look to it. Even though the current sub tried to fix that, it's still chunky IMO. You can tell too when all the young skinny kids are rocking a current sub trying to flex. Looks like they need two hands just to lift it up to show it lol. Have you tried the new/current Speedy? I believe they tapered the bracelet and slimmed it down a bit.

You said it correctly. Side by side heritage looks bland. I picked pro model for that reason. For my wrist size pro is very comfortable to wear all day. The size is perfect a smaller watch will look odd with proportion. Tudor 39 mm will be the choice for many with 6.5 inch wrist.

I really looked at both prior to purchasing my white dial SMP300 which I love. The heritage is a beautiful piece but much more vintage. The AR coating on the SMP is much better and the look was more me. I am not so much a vintage guy which the heritage clearly leans toward. Both are spectacular pieces- I am a bigger guy and the SMP suited me more

Nice one Guy! It's great to see a review that is objective although there will always be some spots of subjective elements. That you can recommend the SM300M on its merits even though its not one that works for you due to its physical size and aesthetic should be applauded. You also admitted the 180 degree switch in preference once you had the two watches side by side, again a noble admission. We all see spec sheets, videos and photos of watches and some will form a view that will be cast in stone but once seen in real life and tried on the wrist opinions can change. When the current SM300M was released some years ago I have to admit that I wasn't a fan..... until I saw one in the flesh and it blew me away what the difference in seeing the watch in real life compared to photos could be. I ended up with a purchase of the white dial version. I also like the 300 classic or heritage and it's a great watch in its own right and I would love one but it's unlikely to take much wrist time away from my SM300M and that for me is a good reason why it's not on my watch 'watch list'. Many thanks for sharing.

A review can never be 100% objective, and I don't aim for that as a goal. When I like something, a lot of the reasons why I like it will be subjective. But I try to explain my thought process and hopefully viewers can relate to what I'm saying and use that information to make their own decisions.

Great video as always, what are your thoughts on the new 75th Aniversary Summer blue Seamaster 300 heritage with its gradient dial and baby blue markers? Would that improve legibility? It amazes me how a brand like Omega, that has so many SKUs, doesn't have a smaller size option for the Seamaster 300 Professional. Pretty much every other model they make has at least two sizes. I've tried on the white dial SMP 300 a few times and I love the look of it. I could pull it off, but I'm not going to spend $5k+ on a watch that I wished was smaller. You've got to think Omega is aware of the clamor for a smaller size and will release it sooner than later. Otherwise, Tudor is absolutely going to eat their lunch on the 40 and under side of things. Case in point, my money will go to a Pelagos 39 eventually if Omega doesn't release a smaller version.

How do you go about building a relationship with a local dealership to borrow watches and what are the insurance issues that come from you borrowing these pieces? Are they display models? Seen a few channels have this sort of relationship, and it's always interested me how it's come about and the trust element of the arrangement👍
@JustBlueFish

After a couple years, once my channel reached a decent size, I just reached out to a few dealers I knew were good and reputable, and introduced myself and asked if we could work together. I've had a few different dealers loan me watches, but Exquisite Timepieces does far more than any others - probably because they are 5 miles from my house.

I have the "Goldeneye" Quartz ( shock horror) version of the 300m, 41mn, nice and slim, %925 when I bought it back in 2006. I cannot see any good reason whatsoever to replace it with almost £6k's worth of auto chunk! I like the 300 but for someone with a visual disability, legibility is essential and I'm dissapointed to hear its an issue on the 300. I think the problem with the 300 pro or heritage is they are just too thick and bulky. The tudor bb 58 is a good shout , because it ticks the boxes for most people, although a tad boring. My personal favourite is the seiko 62mas models , like the sla017 and 043. The movement might not be as accurate as the omega or tudor, but the build quality is better than either, imo. If seiko had done the 62mas on a bracelet with a t fit clasp , in various colours, as their flagship diver at under 5k , then they could have blown the swiss out of the water.
@gavinBsussex
@gavinBsussex Жыл бұрын
Sorry buddy, but I own two prospex Seikos and they are lovely watches but there is no way they are better built than the Omega Smp300 or the Tudor Black Bay which I also own. Omega's quality is leagues ahead in every way. Now Grand Seiko build amazing and exceptional watches but standard Seikos cannot hold a light to Tudor or Omega. There is a reason they are more expensive than Seiko and that is because of the better build quality, better movement etc
@martinharrison4245
@martinharrison4245 Жыл бұрын
@@gavinBsussex prospex and sla models are completely different levels. The sla models are basically a grand seiko in fit and finish. Unless you have experienced one, in reality , then you cant compare. I own tudors and have experienced many omegas , and I stand by what ive said. Have you actually experienced a sla043 for example ?
@gavinBsussex
@gavinBsussex Жыл бұрын
@@martinharrison4245 yes I tried on a SLA043 at a local AD as I was interested in the hype behind the watch last year and the watch is great but without a bracelet I don’t think it is worth the money they want for it. I always feel it is easier to make a watch without a bracelet to seem high quality as you only have the dial, bezel and case to concentrate on. Seiko as a company make great watches but the bracelets always let them down - same with Grand Seiko - amazing watches sub par bracelets. I am glad you like your SLA043 but I would not trade in my Omega Seamaster for one as the overall aesthetics and quality of the SMP300 on a bracelet is far superior to my mind.
