The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Chronograph CK 2998 Limited Edition (311.32.40.30.02.001) features a 39.7mm stainless steel case surrounding a silver dial on a black leather strap with a stainless steel tang buckle. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, tachymeter and chronograph. The watch also measures 14mm in thickness and 48mm from lug-to-lug.

Cool comparison! Got the FOIS myself. Im really into the history of omega and space in general. Moreover, picked this one over the double sapphire (with open caseback) since its smaller and can be worn casual and more dressy. IMO way more beatiful than the Moonwatch Professional :)

i feel that fois is thicker than speedy pro. the lug is straight and not as elegant as the pro. somehow i like speedy pro better

@@kittenfan thanks for the reply! Imho it feels slimmer as well, but I have got pretty large wrists which may explain that. As a tip for everyone: always feel a watch on your wrists in real life before you buy it!

The FOIS definitely wears smaller than the Speedy pro, I was aiming for the speedy pro but ended up with the FOIS

Can’t go wrong with either. I worked engineering for NAVAIR for 10 years and at time built and raced my own cars. Last November I found a CK2998 (no. 151) at an AD friend and never looked back. A magnificent watch and I can go back eventually and get a FOIS or Speedy professional more easily in the future. Great comparison Tim.

Between the FOIS and the 2018 LE... the FOIS. Between the FOIS and the 2016 LE (the "Blue Panda")... now that would be a much tougher choice. Mostly due to the fact that I wear navy blue dress attire nearly daily, so that beautiful combination of blue subdials and bezel would be a perfect fit. But in the end, I went with the FOIS.

A funny thing is: the look of CK2998 is much more racing oriented, but a pulsometer on the bezel instead of tachymeter.

Ck 2998. Got one. Chances are you'll never see another in the wild. I like unique watches, limited editions that you are unlikely to see on anyone else. I also bought the 57 seamaster trilogy for similar reasons. All are great watches though and none are bad buys

I'm with you Tim, I too pick the CK2998 in this color ✊🏼😌....already owning a 3570.50 from 2000 I feel like I have some type of "vintage" time piece which glows magnificently at night and is super comfortable. I would like to get a hands on with a CK2998 at some point to get into my collection. 👍

That's a difficult one. Probably the driver, ideally, however I'd go for one of Legend speedies (another Schumacher watch) from late 2000's. You get professional case which I prefer, bracelet, automatic movement (Frederick Piguet decendent, I believe but please, do correct me if I'm wrong) and nicely "hidden" date at 6. Great comparison by the way:)

FOIS for me, and I just bought one. First of all, it was designed with motor sports in mind - not space & aviation. So the idea that the FOIS is somehow not a driver’s watch is really kinda silly. Beyond that, just look at them. Visually, the FOIS is uncommonly handsome; the best looking Speedmaster, IMO. It just looks so “right” - the size, the symmetry, the proportion, the leaf hands for time; baton hands for the chronograph - it all just works so well. The driver watch, by comparison, is something of a mess. Harder to read, loud, almost garish. Sorry, but I disagree with your choice on this one.

Strange that the FOIS or 1962 inspired version was a racing watch at the time. Speedy didn’t become the aviator watch until 1965 I believe. I own the FOIS and love it! I’ve seen this panda version in the metal and it’s really hot but definitely dressier than a regular Speedy

If it's done as an investment, driver. If it's done for the sheer experience of owning a speedmaster? FOIS. A pulsation scale makes no sense on the driver. I love panda/reverse panda dials, but if it was my choice I would ask for a tachy bezel, red minute/hour hands for the chrono (it's cool when all chrono hands match), and a sapphire back to show the movement since it's not a purist watch anyway. But both are cool.
