I know this is an ancient video, but I was happy to come across this nontheless. Both great knives by design. Totally different executions of each. I have found that both blade styles are extremely versatile and usefull. I have found that I despise thick blades bc I have found no use or need of them. However, in this case, the saving grace for the Canadian is its super high grind. I would however, like to see the tang tapered to save a ton of weight. I would agree with you that the belly of the Canadian lends superior ergonomics, but the curved spine makes scraping a rod harder to control. Both are great knives to have in your stable. Good video.

Nice video! I agree with you as my preference is the Canadian special as well. I have also picked up the Canadian Camp II for the camp needs and going to use the Canadian special more as a personal edc while in the woods.

Great video Mike... I really like the way you cut to different "scenes"... In your house, out in the woods, etc. Looks good.As for the knives they both look like winners, but I do like the Canadian Special more... But I might be biased in my opinions... lolThumbs up buddy!

Say Heah Mike, I think the Eliot iCal Blade Style is awesome for Bush crafting. Infact I bought a Weidmannshiel made in Solingen, Germany a few years ago and I neck carry it, the handles are stag and its a integral design the blade and the stag Slabs. I know your Bark River Canadian Special is Aces, I'm thinking of getting it in 3V.

Youre right, a lot of thought DID go into designing the Canadian Special....at the GROHMANN KNIFE factory..lol. But i do really like the Bark River versions as well. I just absolutely hate their flat style sheaths (the ones that comes stock with Aurora) Those sheaths aren't worth the stitching used to sew them together. The leather sheath that ships with the inexpensive Condor Kephart - $59.95 for knife and sheath - is waaaaaay better than the BR ones that ship with the Aurora. What the heck was Mike thinking?? I do however like the same sheaths you do, the narrower/rectangular style. Im about to order another Aurora with black handle (so you know its either Mike's or mine) and will ask Mike to swap out the sheath for the narrow rectangular one. Anyway, thanks for the terrific review of these beautiful knives.

Nice video. The kephart is just ugly imo and the handle thickness is not symmetrical. I’d take the Canadian Special.
