However, I will say the lack of content and meaningful lyrics is not restricted to Afro beats alone, rather it's a sign of the time we are in. I am sure that if u look around the African continent, you will still find artists who are keeping it real by composing songs of substance but often times, their efforts are overlooked because the taste of this generation is not about contextual substance or something with lyrical strength, it's all about gyrations. This bashing of Afro beats lately is coming out place of Jealousy. It’s time for Afrobeats to take the world stage let it be, other genre’s had their moments and nobody bashed it so hard. Same way there are songs without messages in Reggae/Dance hall so it is with Afrobeats or Hiphop and conversely. That Afrobeats is a ‘feel good’ genre doesn’t mean that you can’t find songs with conscious messages. The roots of Afrobeats is Fela Kuti and 99 percent of his songs were about consciousness. All black people are Africans we shouldn’t be trying to bring down ourselves because we do not live in the same continent or region.

I understand both sides but at then end of the day Afrobeats is more of a jump up, happy vibes type of music that people rather hear than being sad and depress, its more of a melody type of music. They can still sing about life and struggles but not a lot of people want to hear that in the world. In any genre of music singing about that nowadays doesn't sell. So I guess you just got to go with the flow and when the flow changes you change with it too. If Afrobeats was just about struggles, then I don't think it would have been so successful because it isn't relating to many people, just certain people. Africans are just showing the happy side of them and it's making them money globally, so you can't knock that, you have to be happy for them. As black people worldwide, our lives are full of struggles, but when we have other people listening to our stuff, appreciate it and stop putting each other down.
