She is singing live with no auto-tune to back her up like most of the current talentless "pop" twits use. She still is the best female vocalist in the world even being gone for almost 40 years.

Karen Carpenter was a national treasure. I don't know of anyone who doesn't like her. I have really hard rocker friends who like The Carpenters. That voice was like "buttah". Had this vulnerable quality about it that really touched people.

As a 61-yr old kid from Southern Ohio, I can't tell you how much good it does my heart to see a guy in a Biggie t-shirt and a gal in an AC/DC t-shirt smiling to the angelic voice of Karen and the genius arrangements of Richard. There never was (and never will be again) anything quite like The Carpenters and those times...

Believe it or not this great Bachrach / David song was tried by several other artists and failed. It took two things to make it into a mega hit. One was Karen's beautiful voice the second was Richard's great arrangement which included his "da, da,da - da,da,da" on the piano at 2:11. Karne's voice was a gift from god!

"A drummer who can also sing" is how she described herself. She was a helluva drummer and enjoyed that much more than singing! So clear, soft, at all levels and a super sweer 3-octave contralto range- tone/pitch perfect - even with computer analysis - she is always spot on. The only female singer he would pay to see in a live concert - or so said Frank Sinatra. I believe she is lead vocalists for The Angel Choir (RIP Karen).

Thanks for your good reactions to Karen Carpenter. Im on my late 60s, so remember KC very well on the radio and TV specials. I believe this album (without Richard's input) was released by Richard in 1996, years after her death in 1983 at 32yo. She sang this while very sick. Her album cover even shows her too thin. She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Richard, her brother, was a terrific arranger but KC's voice was discovered by Herb Alpert in 1969 which began their road to fame. Richard convinced her that her best singing voice was contralto, 'the money is in the basement'. I believe KC's voice, especially contralto, was the best female voice ever. No auto-tune, stripping, gimmicks, or screaming. Her nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice compelled you to listen. She had no professional voice training. Paul McCartney said she sang Ticket To Ride better than the Beatles, and "she had the most angelic voice I have ever heard". John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant "you have a fabulous voice luv". Every female harmony in all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard. They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she received 4 grammys. She was also recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. She never knew true love, nor how good she really was. Check other songs such as 'Superstar' 'Solitaire', 'Only Yesterday', 'Hideaway', 'Rainy Days and Mondays','I Can Dream Cant I', 'Hurting Each Other', 'Need To Be In Love', 'Goodbye To Love', etc,. She had low self-image, and could never seem to please her mother. She had a few friends including Dionne Warwick. She had serious onset of anorexia in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. Pressured by her mother to marry a guy in 1982 that was quite brief. He was broke, not who she thought, and mistreated her. Never knew true love. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia. [Some info contained herein came from documentaries such as, "Only Yesterday]
