Just think, this is about to become routine. I can't wait to start taking road trips to watch multiple launches. The "first ever" double booster return, booster and Starship return, double booster and Starship returns... We live in awesome times.

Yep and I'd bet everything I love and own that they destroy several in the process. One of the most incredible feats of engineering besides the moon landing and was done flawless on the first try as if they have been doing their for the entirety of the program.. Amazing.

Incredible to notice that the booster landing on the chopsticks was perfectly "square" too! You can tell from the design of the visible interior portion above the grid-fins. That, to me, is like dropping a key into a lock, and having it fall right in! Nothing can top that precision! Controlled by great software, this will happen again, and again, and again! Also, you can see the velocity drop from 9km/h to 1km/h before catch. That's a little-more-than the number for feet/sec. That catch was gentle too!

the first 80% of the problem is launching the booster, the second 80% is catching it, the third is flying it again. This is already insane levels of cool, but I'm wondering what the engines look like after landing given that "coming in hot" looks like it was more than just a turn of phrase. At a guess, this one will never fly again, but is going to give loads of data on what kind of stresses that entry put the engines under.
@alkemix2 ай бұрын
The boosters are designed to produce 17 million pounds of thrust and handle well above that in forces and over 6k degrees. Deceleration back to base is not going to render the rockets useless. That's probably a walk in the park for the booster compared to max q and the tolerances it's built to.

Starship still has heat problems and was fighting off fin burn trough.
