My favorite girl group of all time! Never get enough cred compared to The Supremes of course, but they were the 70’s to me ! I was in love with Sheila Hutchinson but they all pretty and could sing! I was a teen the whole 70’s decade while The Emotions were popular, wish they had even more hits in the 80’s…

It was written by Skip Scarborough. It was produced by Maurice White and Clarence McDonald. The song reached #7 on the R&B and #44 on the Hot 100. Their combined voices 👩🏾‍🎤👩🏾‍🎤👩🏾‍🎤 sound so good together- a touch of class. In 1997, Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold covered the song: "Don't Ask My Neighbors", and filmed a music video the song as well, for the film: Sprung. The song has been covered by many artists-groups including 🎤: Nancy Wilson, Minnie Riperton, Jade, Brownstone, Sheila Hylton, Bobby Caldwell, The Temptations, Will Downing and more. The Emotions Info 📰: The Emotions were an American Grammy Award-winning soul/R&B vocal ensemble from Chicago, Illinois who began as a gospel group called The Hutchinson Sunbeams in 1962. The group transitioned into R&B music in 1963. The Emotions were comprised of four sisters: Wanda Hutchinson, born December 17, 1951; Jeanette Hutchinson, born November 28, 1952, Shelia Hutchinson, born December 17, 1953, and Pamela Hutchinson, born on September 18, 1958. Only three sisters would perform in the group at a time after they signed their record deal. The sisters were all taught the rudiments of music, harmonizing, and how to play the guitar as small children by their father, Joe Hutchinson. Their first hit record came in 1969, after signing with Volt Records, a subsidiary of Stax records. They released the single: “So I Can Love You”, which became a top 40 pop hit and peaked at #3 on the R&B chart, remaining there for ten weeks. Another single entitled: "The Best Part Of A Love Affair", rose to #27 upon the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart. During 1970, The Emotions released a single entitled: "Heart Association". That song reached #29 on the Billboard Hot Soul Songs chart. The group went on to release their sophomore album: Untouched, in 1972. Cousin Theresa Davis and younger sister Pam Hutchinson both temporarily joined the group at various times in the 1970s when Jeanette Hutchinson took a leave of absence from the group in order to get married and raise her family. The Emotions then started to work on their third studio album entitled: Songs Of Innocence And Experience. This album was due to be issued in 1973, but was eventually shelved. The group went on to appear in the 1973 feature film: Wattstax, performing the song: "Peace Be Still". The tune went on to be added to the movie's soundtrack. Wattstax was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Documentary. With Stax Records becoming defunct in 1975, the group then left the record label altogether. In 1976, The Emotions released their first album: Flowers, on the Columbia Records record label. It rose to #5 upon the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #45 on the Billboard 200. The following year, 1977, they released their second Columbia Records album: Rejoice. Working with music composure Maurice White (of Earth, Wind & Fire) their 1977 song: Best Of My Love, became a chart topper on the Pop and R&B charts but it was also a Disco hit song that peaked at #1 on the Disco chart and remained there for 11 weeks. The song: “Best Of My Love”, was the group's first international hit song as well, reaching the top ten in Australia and New Zealand. The group won a 1977 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. On September 8, 1977, the group made the cover of Jet magazine. In 1978 The Emotions released the album: Sunbeam, which included the single: “Smile”, which peaked at #6 on the Billboard R&B chart. In 1979 their single: “The Best Part Of A Love Affair”, peaked at #27 on the R&B chart. Later that year they partnered with Earth, Wind And Fire to release the song: “Boogie Wonderland”, the Disco and R&B hit that reached #2 on the R&B chart and #6 on the Pop chart. The song sold over one million records and was nominated for a Grammy. By the 1980s The Emotions began to decline in popularity and as a result changed record labels frequently. In 1984, The Emotions, now with the Red Records record label, released the album: Sincerely, which included the singles: “You're The One” (#33 R&B) and "You're The Best" (#52 R&B). The following year, 1985, they signed with Motown records and released the album: If I Only Knew. The group's single: "If I Only Knew Then (What I Know Now)", failed to chart. Their Motown records album would be their last album released as a group. The Emotions would be featured on Tyler Collins 1989 song: "Watcha Gonna Do?", which rose to #8 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. During the 1990s the group would provide backing vocals for many artists including: Helen Baylor, Nancy Wilson, Earth Wind & Fire, LL Cool J, Urban Knights, George Duke, Smokey Robinson and more. In 2001, the group were bestowed with the Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. The Emotions were inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame at Harlem’s The Apollo Theater in 2001. The Emotions went on to guest upon Earth, Wind & Fire's 2003 album: The Promise, which was produced by Maurice White. A song from the album featuring The Emotions called: "All In The Way", rose to #13 on the Adult R&B chart and #25 on the Adult Contemporary chart. As well the group appeared on a 2004 PBS Soul music special hosted by Patti LaBelle where they performed their song: "Best Of My Love". Within September of 2004, their long ago shelved album: Songs Of Innocence And Experience, was finally released by Concord Records which now owns the music catalogue of Stax Records. Now, a quartet with Pamela Hutchinson, the youngest sister, performing with the group, they collaborated with Snoop Dogg on his 2006 song: “Life.” The Emotions continued to perform their music live on stage in the 2000s-2010s with various group lineups. Pamela Hutchinson passed away on September 18, 2020 in Chicago at the age of 61 🙏🏾. In 2021, The Emotions appeared on DJ Cassidy's "Pass The Mic: BET Soul Train Edition".
