I hope you get to fulfill your dreams. My mother is in your age range a couple of years older. Other than her, only my grandmother, her mother made it to retirement. My dad, his parents and my mother's dad all died before 70. My dad didn't even make it to 60. All had plans of going back to Barbados (your fellow Commonwealth nation, since you're Canadian) to enjoy life in their native sun after lives in Britain and America. They wanted to go back and grow food, maybe raise some animals and just enjoy their lives, they even built houses over there but illness took all of them.

I understand that moment of wondering if you made the right choice. Just remember anything you learn from trying to survive in this box, you can use in another box. All knowledge you learn from this is good. I lived in an old moldy mobile home for a while, get mold specific paint. It's more expensive, but I promise it's worth the mold not coming back. Get the kind specifically for bathrooms. I wouldn't want all that wiping down to be for nothing!

You're going to want to find some pillows to put in the vents. It will block the sun in the warm months. Otherwise, you'll never get it cool inside during the summer. Trust me when I say the pillows make a huge difference. Don't flush up down the toilet unless necessary is what we were told. They can clog up your septic system. We bought what I call a turd toter to hook up to our septic to drain it & then take over to the dump station. This past summer, we stayed for months in ours, not just wknds. We loved it. I still want to pull it out & go to other places. The sportsman's club we joined doesn't have a lake for swimming, just fishing.

It's the same way with wallpaper here in the states. I redid my whole house using such paint and wallpaper - only $1.00 US per roll. Often you can buy several rolls of nice wallpaper which someone ordered for a really nice home, then changed their mind about. I shopped and fixed up my home over a period of time, like 6 - 12 months, because new stuff hits the clearance bin every week. When doing small spaces, like bathrooms or bedroom areas, you can often mix rolls of paper that are complimentary to each other! They have peel and stick tiles that work welll, and paint to refinish things like bathtubs, bathroom sinks, etc., and appliance paint in a spray can. You can often pick up flooring that's leftover from a larger piece that the store cannot sell, too! I am excited to see what you two accomplish over time, as you're both very hardworkers! Thanks for sharing your journey, and all it's ups & downs, with us here on KZbin! 😊

Hey fam, Just a suggestion to get rid of odors. Put a small pot on your stove with mostly vinegar and some water, bring to a boil and let it boil for about 15-20 minutes. That has got any stinky/stale odors I’ve ever come up against . Make sure to ventilate and I step outside while I have it going. And remember don’t mix with bleach or pour out in a sink that you recently bleached. Also I highly recommend a humidity detector (can get at home improvement stores or amazon) bc rvs are known to have sneaky leaks. Congrats on your new home.

Hopefully the heat and ac work alright. I love that you have your fur babies with you all. i wonder if you all can put down those plastic pallets from grocery store for "decking around your rig to keep dirt inside down? And keep chairs and outside table from sinking into ground. And put up an awning with those warm white lights to expand outside living area? If you do put down pallets be sure to do something so it is not slippery. Personally I would paint a design and drop sand or coffe grounds? For texture, and traction. And smoke outside. I smoke for now and can't stand how the smoke permeates everything. It looks like your RV has a lot of potential. Elbow grease and creativity will make it your own, very livable and cozy home! Good luck -- I'll be interested to see how it turns out.

Good choice. You two will make it a home. The 2 cats are adorable. You can figure out lots of things to make it your place. I like it. The layout is good. Bravo to you both. I would be happy in something like this RV.

Oh wow, interesting to watch. And I don't think the chairs were that bad. Maybe steam clean them & reupholster them perhaps. Seemed to be in okay condition, nonetheless. Good luck on your journey.

Little known Secret...you can stay on Quartzsite Arizona BLM land for $180 for 7 months. To get the full 7 months you got to rent it starting in September but you can still rent it now. There's also the Big tint RV Festival starting on Jan 18th of this month. I hope this is informative. I'm telling y'all this info because I didn't find this helpful info out until I got rid of my RV. Also I pay super high rent when you can pay low rent. Peace. Blu of Blu Tint Photography

Oh my gosh, ❤ sending love to you two. My Husband and I are doing the same thing, we moved 800 miles away from everything and everyone we knew but it's not too bad, it's is MUCH better than the extended stay hotel...yikes that place was DREADFUL. I'll be praying for you both, sending love from Tennessee ❤🤗

LOL when she said she saw someone in the mirror and got scared... that's when I noticed he had on the same sweater as Freddy Krueger and I could not stop laughing. Also, make sure you get a mattress protector that fully zips around that mattress (replace the mattress ASAP and make sure you put a super nice zippered mattress protector on the new one too). You do not want mold or critters or bugs getting into your mattress. If you have ANY water damage, which in a camper that old, you likely will at some point, it will save that mattress and you'll be so glad you paid $50 for a nice mattress protector. All of that area above the cab is water damage. Tarp it off. When it is sunny out, you'll need a ladder to get onto the roof and clean it off really good. You will need to remove that vent (there are youtube videos that show you how to do it. I've done it, it's fairly simple) and get some calk and maybe some weather stripping and reseal that vent to prevent more water from getting in. Same with the windows or it will keep happening and you'll get mold. Once you've resealed the vent and the windows. Reseal the roof with Flexseal. Grab at least two gallons for that size roof and a roller set and paint it. Coat the WHOLE ROOF at least twice (letting it dry between layers) and make sure you get all of the seals around the vents. You can also replace that wood above the driver's side with some plywood. I would fix the roof and seal that up before replacing ANYTHING on the inside though. If you don't fix where the water is coming in it will just keep damaging the interior.

Wow thanks for the advice!!! We definitely bought a mattress cover because it want that rough looking and we don’t have $350 to buy a new one just yet! Yes that is literally the plan we have researched to do but because it’s rainy season we have it tarped off and will continue when it stops raining Thanks again for all this advice :)

Hello, from Washington State. I did not know that was your son, you look his age. One of my sons is 6'4, tall like him. Close in age, too. If you ever have issues with the toilet clogging, boil a pot of water, squirt some dawn dish soap into the tank, dump water in, and flush. Let it sit for a while, then more boiling water. Works every time. And dont forget you have to use the special toilet paper in the rv section at the store. But i think the Scotts one ply that is safe for septic tanks works just as good. I used those cheap peel and stick laminate tiles on the floor in my rv. They are like $1 a piece.

Good job. Never fun cleaning other people’s messes. May be looking for a “mobile home” myself. San Diego is ridiculous on rents.

Have you sealed the roof to prevent leaking, the roof and windows must always be checked for calking because it's the first to dry up crack. Amazon also sells RV covers.
