During secondary school in Zimbabwe we learnt a lot about Kenya.....In Geography we learnt about being a top tea producer, second only to South Africa in terms of tourists arrival in Africa and Zimbabwe being third back then, Kenya has large national parks. In history subject we learnt about Kenya independence struggle the Dedan Khimathi and Mau Mau, Jomo Kenyatta and KANU party. We obviously know about Kenyan runners as they have always dominated All Africa Games tournaments and represent Africa very well in Olympics and other world athletic tournaments. In secondary school English literature there were 2 papers, Shakespearean Paper 1 and Paper 2 studying African authors like Chinua Achebe and Ngugi wa Thiongo THE GREAT KENYAN AUTHOR his books were text books for English Literature classes...we know Kenya through the places and setting of his novels

I know Kenya is the East African powerhouse in tea, milk production, tourism, transport, higher education, and tourism. Although very belated, Kenya recently recognized Shona people of Zimbabwean ancestry , and admitted them to registration as citizens. In athletics Kenya continues to dominate regionally and at international games especially Olympics . German Reinhard Fabisch who went on to sire a son with a Zim wife once coached Kenya senior men football team. Kenya boasts of extensive milling Industry with the Swiss School of Milling now located there. On food your Ugali is the staple. In politics, Obama hails from Kenya and President Kenyatta showed leadership by accepting to work with Mr Odinga

True. It is the power of focus. The average Kenyan is a "Jack of many languages and a master of none". We speak at least 3 languages. Mother tongue, Kiswahili and English. As a Kenyan,i have worked and lived in zim on two occasions. How one perceives a people is also based on ones personality. On the first occasion was when the zim economy was taking a horrible beating. You could sense the desperation but the resilience of the people was great. The atmosphere was like ''please don't do this to our great country"and for me as a Kenyan was "we cant take this crap and someone has to answer"At that time what hit me was how organized Harare. was compared to Nairobi.I was shocked when my driver stopped at a red light at midnight with no traffic at all.In all, the hospitality of the people is great.my colleagues took me may places.i so loved the jacaranda trees lining up the road to/next to parirenyatwa hospital.i stayed at Rainbow towers then.My second stay was at Imba Matombo and Arundale.I could write a book on my experiences.Zimbabweans are a great people in a beautiful country

The other thing my Kenyean brothers and sisters might find interesting is that yellow maize is called Kenya in Zimbabwe. Not sure how that came to be but around 1982, there was a very bad draught in Zimbabwe and the country was importing a lot of mazie. That was the first time yellow got introduced into Zim. Word on the streets was that the maize was coming from Kenya, and since then its been known as chibage che Kenya (Kenya maize), hupfu hwe Kenya (Kenya mealie meal), Sadza re Kenya (Kenya sadza/ugali)….Thinking about it as an adult now, it actually sounds quite funny

The drought that introduced yellow maize meal and consequent yellow sadza known as "Kenya" was in 1992 not 1982. Ironically it was not imported from Kenya, but from elsewhere, I forget now, possibly America, but it wasn't Kenya. Maize meal in Kenya is the same colour as in Zimbabwe. It was just a story that it came from Kenya, and this story went viral - a bit like the recent toe selling story. By the way most Zimbabweans didn't like the yellow "Kenya" sadza as it had a different taste to normal white sadza, but personally I actually preferred it and after the drought ended you could no longer get yellow maize in Zimbabwe which disappointed me.

@@donalmaccormaic8173 The first time we ate yellow Sadza in Zim was in 1983 and i was in Grade 4. And for the next 3 years, we were eating yellow sadza I'm in my late 40's and that yellow maize was called Kenya and even though the maize was might not have been coming from Kenya, people The 1992 drought came later on. Go check our history bro. We had a bad drought and fuel shortages that year.

I think Kenyans are fairly knowledgeable about other countries compared to other Africans. We have not been to Zimbabwe but we know a lot about Zimbabwe and other African countries. I wonder what they teach in their countries about other African countries. In our school days, we learnt independent struggle and the leaders of Zimbabwe in that struggle. We learnt about tobacco farming in Zim, of course we all know about the economic hardship in the last 2 decades in Zim, the 2 big tribes of Shona and Ndebele, Victoria falls, the Great Zimbabwe civilization etc. Africans need to learn about each other and their countries.

That opened up my interest for Pan Africa and to know more. I have traveled to at least 12 African countries and i intend to do more after this pandemic. ZIM has always been on my list because of the beauty of the country and the history(Great Zimbabwe) and the similarities in language. As a Ugandan, ofcourse I know quite a bit about Kenya but my favourites are the Kericho gold mint tea bags, Sauti Sol, The River between by Ngugi wa Thiongo, the many olympics long distance runners, that migingo island we were both claiming, The Akamba buses, the kilifi festival, Kenya Utalii College, that naki nairobi song by Mbilia Bel; I don't like the fact that we adore Kenya alot more than they adore us... I came to this conclusion in BBA show where Kenya always voted for Tz over us and yet we always voted for Kenya (yep how petty of me!) ... anyway I guess because of their common swahili thing going on but surely Kenya is one of the best places to live on the African continent.

Sorry for that but we love your songs, especially the Kenyan people from Busia it's simply because you don't sing them in the language we can't understand maybe that's why they kept on voting for TZs but we are one family all the same.

In Zimbabwe there are 16 languages every language we have. Links to most Bantu speaking because it was a road we use from Tanganyika (Morden day Tanzania) b4 Mapungubwe state and mwenemutapa (greatzimbabwe ) so sub Saharan Africa it's more than just tourism we were one coming to the promised land In plans of Jah ... We shall rise again without borders and be great again Imagine we all Africans but we communicate with foreign language we should try to learn each other's languages to I like my sister that is a great start #we cam from far away together and faces some difficulties together why not do it now together again🔯
