Sο how come my partner calls our dog Αλικι - Αλικακι sometimes ? Surely it should be Αλικιτσα or Aλικιλουνα ? ( the dog is female and small !).
@OmiloHellas2 жыл бұрын
Hello Sam and thank you for your comment. The fact that what ends on -άκι is neuter doesn't mean it cannot be a man or a woman. For example we say το αγόρι (the boy)- το αγοράκι (the little boy) το κορίτσι (the girl) - το κοριτσάκι (the little girl) And this is what we do with NAMES of persons or animals too. So Η Μαρία, το Μαράκι Η Αλίκη, το Αλικάκι etc However it is not a strict rule and you can be... creative when it comes to which suffix you will choose. For example, for the name "Κατερίνα", you can say "Κατερινούλα", but "Κατερινάκι" as well. :) So the dog can be Αλικάκι, Αλικούλα, Αλικίτσα etc. The first is the most common. The more you are in contact with the daily language, the easier you get which suffix is more common for each name. But there is no "mistake" in general. :) Just be careful with the article. When you choose "-άκι", the article is always "το".

Greek, Italian and Spanish pronunciation are very similar, for the most part. For example, Greek doesn't have the sh or ch sounds, though many Greeks do learn them, of course. Spanish doesn't have the sh sound but does have ch.
