And the best man, father, teacher, friend a young boy growing up could ever have the privilege to have met.

@@turtle19dad I have conscious memories of attending games since '82. Mostly in Anaheim, some in L.A. and the Murph. Seen lots of tremendous talent. Only a few though seemed to combine that talent with a supreme mental approach. What I mean, is that they stepped into that box and had a plan that they were intent on executing. Carl Yastremski and Tony Gwynn. Others may have been better, but they were so fun to watch. And with Tony, it seemed he was an even better guy. I have met Tony Jr. and he is a hell of a nice guy. Thanks for reading and be well during this strange time.

@@turtle19dad Did he sign it at El Cajon Ford? I went there twice just to meet him when he was their spokesman. Can’t believe we lost such a gem far too early.

The greatest. I can remember growing up in San Diego. Tony was the man. He still is. I wanted a Padres jersey with Gwynn in the back for so long.

You prove that baseball fans are move educated than basketball fans who only judge greatness by championship rings and not individual stats.Wilt Chamberlain has all the records and yet they call Michael Jordan the greatest. Stupid!

Underrated baseball player. He could've got of out San Diego, made far more money and a lot more publicity but he was knew his roots. Tony knew he & his family was loved and respected in San Diego. And like Cal Ripken, Ichiro Suzuki didnt need steriods to inflate his numbers. RIP Tony, we miss you.

His 2000th hit at 2:02 was a textbook Tony Gwynn at-bat. Unlike today's players that try to hit every pitch they see out of the park, he just wanted to put the bat on the ball and put it in play. And he was a master at it.

As good of a defensive player he was, Tony is among the few players that truly can be defined as a pure hitter. He cared far more about making contact than caring about launching it every at-bat, even if he still had some HR power as well.

When I was a kid in the 80s my mom worked at the Mission Gorge Mc Donald’s by Jack Murphy and would see Tony practically daily, whole crew said they always knew it was him in the drive thru by his unique voice. The man had a thing for Big Macs 😂❤ god San Diego misses him, I think he’s our “ Angel in the outfield “ now. Ring in the 2023 super Padres 💯💪

Additionally this man would always sign an autograph for someone that worked there , no muss , no questions. The most solid gold person and player in the generation. Money could’ve never swayed him out of San Diego , like all of SD , he knew he had it all right here at home. Winning the World Series this year is gonna taste soooo good . LFGSD 💪💛🤎

Ese si era un insigne bateador. El eterno bateador de .300. Siempre le daba a la pelota, era un hombre serio, que respetaba el juego. No como muchos ahora que hacen sus tales "perreos". Que vergüenza.
