Thanks for the video review...this reminded me I have the OG Outback Oven somewhere. It doesn't come with all these accessories but was nice to have on the trail...nothing like the anticipation of having fresh baked bread or something on the trail. Freeze dried meals are ok...but there is something to smelling your meal coming together.

That is basically a modern version on cooking in a Dutch oven. It looks pretty cool. I can do all this with my Dutch oven and my adjustable trivets over coals from the campfire. This looks to be a good alternative for using a camp stove instead of a camp fire or hardwood lump charcoal and an old-school Dutch oven. I am biased towards the Dutch oven simply because I love cast-iron cooking for base camping.
@annettedallnielsen25162 жыл бұрын
It is accualy not a new/modern method of cooking, the Omnia oven has been around for a pretty long time, atleast since the 1940's, maby longer, especially in northern Europe/Scandinavia 🙂

I have both an Omnia and a Dutch oven - I use both and love both. Which I use depends on what I cook, where I cook, and the weather!
@carmenmartinez2882 Жыл бұрын
In a fire ban you have to cook with a canister stove only, therefore I bring only the Omnia, even though I car/tent camp is lighter and takes less space. I do like cast iron but is mostly at home.

What an AWESOME review! This gives me hope about it again about buying one. I have hesitated since a number of reviews and cooking demonstrations were "sketchy" results. But YOU did the needed work and stayed on the temps and kept waiting before opening up the lid too early. 🤝 All good cooking essentials for your super success with it. Thank you Chef 🎉 🍽🥠🥂👨🍳

I'm from NC (and just left WA state; I'm now stationed in AK and you have to head up here, Chef!!). That's not Carolina blue, thank God. 😆 And I do say that as a Duke alum, though my sister went to UNC! (Carolina blue is very close to the blue of the sky - hence the joke, "If God is not a Tar Heel, then why is the sky Carolina blue?") In all seriousness, I love that you reviewed this oven because I've been seriously considering one since I bought my teardrop trailer. Now it's a must have! So thanks!

Of course when you buy the oven you have to buy all the extra inserts that they sent you separately.. so it ends up being quite expensive. But it certainly baked and cooked very well for you.. The muffin tray seems very efficient..and for less fuel.. Maybe that the way to make the brownies or any baked goods apart from a loaf of bread..

You should pre-heat the base plate.
@heathertc9026 Жыл бұрын
With this stovetop oven, you lose all the heat when removing the lid. Preheating actually just wastes your gas! It reaches desired temp in only 3-5 minutes starting from cold!
@hazel5552 ай бұрын
As with a slow cooker, cooking time appreciably lengthens by taking lid off as it greatly drops temp and takes a while to increase back to correct temp again.
@juliapeters349510 ай бұрын
Thanks for your review, im sure the temp out side air and if your food is ice cold or room temperature will also affect how everything will cook you need to pay attention to the smells and your temperature guid turn up or down to keep heat even

@carmenmartinez2882 Жыл бұрын
I never ever preheat the Omnia and everything has always turned fine, if you have the thermometer you’ll see that as soon as you open the lid to put the ingredients it cools off rapidly, in my opinion, specially camping is a waste of gas.

It is extremely dangerous / potentially deadly, to feed anything CHOCOLATE to your DOG!!! 🐶
@myas36562 жыл бұрын
Thank you Kathleen! I was freaking out when he fed the dog chocolate. Hopefully his dog is ok 🙂
@RegrettablyLongwinded Жыл бұрын
It takes more chocolate than people realize to cause negative effects in dogs :) Look up the LD50 sometime, and compare that to how much actual chocolate is in a brownie - it's nowhere near that amount. If a dog this size ate the whole pan, that's certainly cause for an ER visit, but a small piece like the dog seems to have received is essentially harmless. To be clear, I'm not advocating for feeding chocolate to dogs, but it's not like giving them antifreeze either.
@myas3656 Жыл бұрын
@@RegrettablyLongwinded Thank you for fine tuning this. For so many years Vets have told us not to feed any chocolate to our dogs. I suppose it’s better in the long run to just tell dog owners no chocolate than to teach each person how to figure out dog weight vs chocolate amount. My long winded contribution, lol. Thanks again for the info.
