I agree with the thoughts you shared, Jess, especially collecting what you love. We all have limited space and it is normal for our tastes to change. It is also normal for everyone's tastes to be different. Personally, I like reading the Golden Age Wonder Woman books and I want to try Golden Age Batman too. I love how the stories are simpler. They remind me of the comics I read as a child such as Archie, Tintin, and Asterisk (before I discovered Marvel). The Golden Age books also allow me to "take a vacation" from the problems and pressures of our modern world. I understand that I am in the minority and that is okay with me.

Oh man I know this is an old video but this video speaks so true to me. I am new to collecting comics/collected editions the last 2 years or so and have this fear of having too much and taking up unneeded space in my home. Luckily I have been just getting stories I know I absolutely love and will continue to enjoy for years to come. I totally agree with downsizing and knowing you will never read some of your books. It's almost the fomo that you get scared of missing out. Thank you for this video Omnidog. Newer sub and absolutely love your content and passion for comics

Kept all the indie and DC and got some extra dosh for Sideshows premium format DC goodies!!! DOT IT. You wont regret the great purge

I definitely agree. Over the years I sold a lot of comics, especially Marvel ones. I sold more than more 100 Marvel hardcovers and I don't regret it. When I started collecting I was very easily manipulated into the hype for things I don't really like. Today I have a curated collection and sometimes I even use my physical space to limit my comic shopping. I don't have space anymore, so I look at my shelves and think "do I want this new book. Will I read this? Is there any book on my shelf that can go so this new book can come in?". And that's the way I managed to have a collection with things I love, focusing on authors or series I'm interested in. It's a great advice that more people should take to heart.

Invincible by kirkman and then some events/notable stories from marvel and dc. I look at my bookshelf and it makes me smile. Interesting video. I started collecting about 2 years ago or so and before I started I said to myself "I need to have a controlled collection" meaning... I have about 50 Absolutes which I love and have the goal of collecting all of them eventually. Then I have like 30 Dark Horse Library editions, 20 Marvel Omnibus and then maybe another 30 or so Image hardcovers. Other than the Absolutes everything else is modern age, well regarded series and runs that I found to be interesting. And that's what I do! Just as a side note, I agree I don't own the Thor Simonson Omni because as much as I respect it I know it's dated and I just wont enjoy it. The new Jason Aaron omni, hell yes because it's a great modern run that fits what I like.

This is good advice for everyone that's not me. With comics I only sell books I upgrade. For people that do want to down size but are apprehensive about it, one thing I do that is really helpful is to take the items I'm considering selling and separate them from my collection. Then look through that stack every month or so and see if there are any that you've changed your mind about. I did that with my punk vinyl collection and after looking at the selling pile for 6 months or so I knew I could sell them without any regrets.

Hey Jess, one thing I'm guilty of is not purging or curating my collections. I look at your books drooling over the Conan Omnis and maybe those DC Golden Age, especially Batman. Then I realise I'm in Australia and that the shipping on just the Batman omnis would cost me a bomb or two. 😕 You make valid points. For some reason I had this notion of collecting Avengers Omnis AND the equivalent Epic collections. I'm now wondering if I shouldn't offload the Epics that are double dipped in the Omnis. What to do? I’ve been doing this for some time in a really slow process. Keeping omnis of X-men and Spiderman only, selling the rest and sometimes switching omnis for the same material in thick tpbs. I blame DC’s new dust jacket design (copying Marvel) for the change in what comics people keep- it fits with the timeframe. Joke aside, you convince me with giving away the comics to those who’d enjoy it more. I only have one omnibus of Wonder Woman and Batman (two of Superman) in the Golden Age. I read them and don’t like that the hero is fine with suicide. Maybe it was fitting for the time, but it didn’t happen with Green Arrow nor Doctor Fate. I haven’t sold or donated them because I contemplate with the, being the first volume (or dust jacket DC logo design for Superman vol 2), but what you say makes sense.

A serious inquiry: which printing and what condition is the Simonson Thor omni in?
@OmnidogsVault3 жыл бұрын
It is the first printing and the cover is VF/NM. The binding is still perfect. If you want pics or more info please feel free to email me! Thanks!

@@OmnidogsVault Thank you for elaborating, and I’m going to pass only because I have the same edition and am on the hunt for a VF+/NM second edition with superior binding and, I think but can’t yet confirm, also slightly thinner paper.

i only love the golden age and silver age of comics and i am younger than you you should keep it because they are classics

But if your not going to read them then what’s the point
@OmnidogsVault3 жыл бұрын
@@RedRightStrawHat right. I agree they’re classics but I pretty much made my case for selling any books in the video

Let me fix that for you. How to curate your collection when you have a habit of purchasing multiple copies of the same book because you forgot you already own it? Nice try.
