The information is valuable but really you don’t show how to change it in the device

So, the Omnipod is the only pump I have ever used - started on Eros 8 years ago, after being on MDI for decades. Am now on the O5, for about the last 6 weeks. I love it, BUT so very very very much wish the O5 would give corrective boluses on its own! I mean, it has access to the CGM so it’s not a technology challenge, it just seems like they didn’t build that feature in. Other “closed loop” systems have this, and I hope so much that Omnipod adds this to the O5 system soon! Thanks again for all the great videos - we are all dealing with the same stuff :)

Yes, totally agree!

Another way to increase the pump is to run it in manual with pre-set basal rates to match your new requirements. Once the pump is running where you want it, you can switch to auto mode and it will take over the new basal rate.

I just started on the pump today... OMG I love it haha. I have watched yours and others videos so I started off already making changes to duration time based on what I was hearing and even the rep said I should consider that just from her experience and It has been great so far. I was set for and I:C of 1:15. my BG was 85. I ate and what was 30g of carbs only gave me 1.41 units and I knew I would spike and sure enough I did up to like 240. So i decided to change my I:C just. small amount to see if that will help me out going forward.

So exciting!! And yes strengthening the ratios a lot is the biggest thing that helped me!

do you make corrections that receiver tells you or if it tells you no insulin needed do you correct on your own

Thanks, as always, for such informative and easy to understand help. I am on my first pod and have already made changes. I want to change my carb ratios again, but ironically, the pod ends up pausing insulin even as I am eating, so it is letting my numbers get too high and then the insulin is on board and hitting “use cgm” to make a correction won’t work. Before you adjusted carb ratios higher, did yours also do this pausing while still eating? I have always had my bg go lower once eating while on mdi and I was fine with that because it limited the highs. Anyway, curious about your experience. I change pod tomorrow and g6 tonight and am committed to staying on automated, making corrections every time I can and hoping it learns me very soon. Thanks for these awesome videos of honesty and the most pertinent information available. What a godsend you are! I told my endo about you and your positivity and she said to stick with your videos since they are so positive. Thanks!

Hi! I had this too. check out my bolusing strategies video where I talk about it!! That should help!

I always learn so much from you Do you make a correction if pump doesn't "say" correction amt. If so how do you decide. Thanks so much
@megtypeone2 жыл бұрын
I know this answer sucks, but it honestly depends! *Most * of the time, I follow what the pump says. But if I feel like I miscounted carbs or maybe am going to need some extra due to fat or insulin resistance, I may add a little extra on.

question, when you say increase youe carb to insulin ratio. Do mean like going from 1:10 to 1:15 or like 1:15 to 1:10? If that makes sense? LOL.
@bisho1p Жыл бұрын
I’ve had to go stupid aggressive down to 1:5 to get it to properly compensate for food. I was at 1:12 before.

This is really helpful as I prepare to start my kid (with the trainer, of course). Do you find that you still need the stronger correction factor and carb ratios after the pump learned your higher daily total? Did you have to change the settings you entered for the manual side to allow it to give you enough? Thanks!
@megtypeone2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes! My basals are still more "exact" (aka, lower) than on my previous pump so I am still using higher ratios, but just having to correct less. No changes to manual side, that doesn't affect anything in automated mode after the first pod!

Thanks for the information Meg. I will make a few adjustments and track my numbers. I have changed my insulin to carb ratio once already along with my correction factor. Question - these settings are under the "Bolus" area. How does this effect the "Basal" amounts that determine my morning numbers. I must be missing something in my understanding of the Omnipod 5 and the auto events.
@megtypeone2 жыл бұрын
Auto mode automatically makes your basal, so adjustments are made by the algorithm based on past total daily insulin amounts, not anything inputed into the settings. Does that help?

Is it possible to average under 100 with the OmniPod 5?

not sure! lowest target is 110, but i do have some days where avg is below that.

I thought you were going to show to do it!? My brain works really bad and the only time I can understand anything is when someone physically shows me how to do it. I was happy to see someone show how to change it. I'm extremely intimidated by doing it on my own. There are times I wish I was as smart as you and take control but I feel really stupid. Since my accident last yr I feel more stupid then normal. Now I have to have someone show me how to do but almost repetitively.

Nice video, thank you for the info. It seems ok for adults but for kids it will be much more work for them and also parents. 😊
