I was on the old school dexcom for about 6 years. I moved and switched jobs. Due to insurance, I’ve been off of a pump for almost 2 years. Had DKA and related pancreatitis in December. My doctor contacted an omnipod rep and they worked together to get my insurance to cover the omnipod and dexcom!! I’m SO happy. It’s due to arrive tomorrow!! So excited to get back on it. I’m putting my dexcom on as soon as I get it. Have to to training and stuff for the omnipod 5. My a1c was 6 while I was on it. It’s now 9.9. I keep telling them I need to be on the pump!

I pay $35 per month for 15 pods. $60 for a months supply of Dexcom sensors, and $60 every three months for the transmitter.

Thank you great video does the pdm have to be connected to wifi for bolus dexcom readings etc ?
@TheJjfrasier
@TheJjfrasier 2 жыл бұрын
No the PDM does not have to be connected to WI-FI it has and ATT data plan built in. And dexcom readings are sent to the PDM by Bluetooth when it’s in range.

hell o and thanks! I just got mine today. Do you or anyone know what case fits the pdm? I'm guessing, like the dash, it's an old discontinues style of Samsung phone. Also, like the dash, I'm sure you have to pay for them if they break. Anyway I'm looking for what case we should get. Thanks!

I’m using the case that came with the pump. I really like it. However, I understand some people want/ need a better case to protect it.

My main question as someone that uses 70-90 units per day on average, occasionally up to 110, is how many pods do they give you for a 30 day period? I assumed they would assume each pod lasts 3 days, but with just 200 units of insulin, you'd be changing the pod every 1.5-2 days, which might be a bit annoying. I'm planning to renew my Tandem warranty that expires in September (can't believe it's been almost 4 yrs already with the T Slim X2), and I don't have much interest in switching with the Mobile Bolus update available on the T Slim now, which I'm beta testing. But, maybe having that info would sway me a little. The main thing for me would be how many pods they actually provide for a 30 day period. I would assume 3 packs of 5 pods? which theoretically could last either you or I 30 days, so pod every ~ 2 days, or so I assume? Also, one thing I have an issue with occasionally with my T Slim X2 pump having an occlusion and having to change the site. Without tubing, I would assume its a lot less likely, but if there was to be an occlusion, it would likely be a lot worse since you have to change the entire thing. Either way, I can't get around the idea of having a pump site meant for 100 less units per day unless they reliably offer enough pods for people that use around 250-300 units every 3 days in total.
@TheJjfrasier
@TheJjfrasier 2 жыл бұрын
So you actually get enough pods for your insulin needs. So I had the doctor write my script for 100 units a day. So I change pods ever 2 days. But I’m eating low carb/keto stuff so I’m using about 60 units a day. Therefore my pods are lasting 3 full days. My first pod lasted 36 hours because I was just eating normally. So i used a lot of insulin. Going back to omnipod was a way for me to force myself to eat better and be healthier because I didn’t have enough insulin in the pod.
@TheHanStudios
@TheHanStudios 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheJjfrasier Oh I see. I don't think I eat so much myself but my overall sensitivity is relatively high. I'm sure if they prescribe the pods based on insulin needs that I could make it work if need be, but I'm still 99.9% not going to switch because I believe whole heartedly in the path Tandem is taking and haven't really had any blaring issues with their system. My last A1C was 5.6% and had been 5.8% for many years prior. Basically since 6 months after diagnosis, I've had great control. But, it is interesting to ponder what a tubeless pump life would be like haha. I don't think it would be beneficial enough for me to want to ditch Tandem, especially because the T Slim X3 is likely to come out in a few years or less and should have even more improvements. Hands down, Tandem's updates over the years have been amazing. Basal IQ, Control IQ, now the Mobile Bolus update. It's also nice that the Tandem works so well with iPhones and Apple Watch. I really was bummed to see how much of an emphasis on Android/Samsung devices the Omnipod has made. I think for me it just makes sense to have a device works well with the devices I use every day, like my phone being able to bolus now with my Tandem pump. Same great CGM (G6) and same great Control IQ and other ratios that have worked so well for me up to this point. I know you never had the Tandem but I'll definitely be keeping up with your experiences with the Omnipod as I get closer to officially committing for my next warranty replacement.

I agree if you aren’t having issues then there really isn’t any reason to swap pumps.

@@TheJjfrasier I use a pod about 3 days. It's a bit more in the summer when my sister visits here in Maine and we got out to dinner often. Most of the year I barely eat and can get about 4 days. I lovedthe dash and just got the 5 and excited to pair it with my phone. I just haven't gotten to it yet. thanks Justin

Are you not worried about having the Dexcom and Omnipod on opposite sides of the body? The Omnipod training video discouraged it, but I'd prefer to do opposite sides rather than same side. Will be curious if that continuously works for you.

So far I have had the pod on my left leg and the sec on my right arm and vise versa and I haven’t had any communication issues or alarms. Currently they are on the opposite legs and it’s still operating like normal.

To clarify, you still have to enter carbs into the PDM before eating or do you eat & the PDM gives insulin as needed?

Hello again, I was wondering if new omni pod 5 will allow the parents to see how much insulin is on board or released while the kids are at school or away from the parent? Another word can the data be shared in current moment with others like the share that dexcom has or not an option? Thank you
@TheJjfrasier
@TheJjfrasier 2 жыл бұрын
I would imagine so. The PDM is constantly updating to the cloud if a Wi-Fi network isn’t available. I haven’t personally used it. But I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Oh I'm so excited for this! I'm very interested to hear your thoughts around the automode combo with Keto. I'm considering jumping off of the Medtronic band wagon already. Do you have Iphone or android?
@TheJjfrasier
@TheJjfrasier 2 жыл бұрын
I have an iPhone. I have my PDM connected to my home and work WiFi. I typically leave my PDM on my desk or in my bag while at work. Then put it in my pocket when leaving. And then it stays in a central part of my house until bedtime. Carrying 2 devices isn’t horrible. I love that the pod and dexcom communicate so I can do my own thing and feel totally free until I have to bolus with the PDM. When the iPhone app is finally released it will be a game changer.

Does it show how much basal it has been giving you on auto mode?

Oh I see you did mention this:) I know the tandem shows how basal rates adjust on the pump in graph format, but wasn't sure about how/ if it would show on the Omnipod in a similar way..can't wait for this to be approved locally
@TheJjfrasier

Yes. You can see the amounts of the auto basals. And if it gives a auto bolus it will add to active Insulin

Thanks for a great video, does it self correct on auto - is that what you mean by an auto bolus? or only adjust basal rates? Also, what is the minimum BG target? Thanks:)
@TheJjfrasier
@TheJjfrasier 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe it tries to self correct. The lowest target BG is 110 and you can set the limit for when you want the pump to correct. For example 110 is the target but you some want the pump to correct unless your sugar is 120 or higher
