I can't stress enough how much of an impact power pop music like Big Star has on my life. There's something about the ringing guitars, melodic hooks, and sweet, heartfelt lyrics. It's so amazing how much of an emotional impact this stuff can have on a person. It's so good that I just want to cry. I wish I was around for this show and the many shows before it. This type of music is just the best. Plain and simple.

Non-Stop Power Pop. I consider myself a music fanatic. I try as much new music as I can. They are easily in my top 10 all time. Have to be the most unlucky (commercially) band of all time. One of most underrated, criminally underknown by public. They write beautiful music that will touch anyone if given the chance

To Non-Stop Power pop: Thank you for putting into words what I can only feel. And yes much of it brings a tear to the eye, a lump in the throat,; the Beatles ( and Beach Boys, yes)may have “ invented” it, but Big Star perfected it, and opened the door for lotsa more great music from mostly unheralded people who never got rich and famous, but felt and gave back “the Love.” And if you look hard enough, people are still playing it now (Empty Hearts, some Blink-182, some Jimmy Eat World, 🎊 🎉😢😂😅❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I’ve been a Big Star fan ever since I started tracing back Matthew Sweet’s influences. Bought this live set on vinyl from a great little record store in Traverse City, MI. The first time I heard it, I was kind of annoyed that Chilton had ad-libbed on this song. Now I love that he ad-libbed on this song. He became more sure of his instincts, and more willing to take risks as he got older. Very admirable traits.

I was driving down Madison Ave. today on way to Firestone for some new skins and looked over at Ardent and there was Jody Stephens trying to troubleshoot the automatic gate out front. I hung a u and introduced myself and got a selfie with him. I look like a star struck idiot, but damn that guy looks good for 71 or how ever old he is. Such a gracious dude. He said they’re doing some Big Star production October 1st here in Memphis, but I can’t recall the venue. I was really trying to get out of his hair at that point. He was really preoccupied with that gate.

AllCanadiaReject I don't think anyone is intending disrespect...just like you're probably not intending to disrespect the passing of Andy Hummel, even though you didn't mention him. John's death is still very recent...and Alex's passing is made more painful after watching this video, so that is what people are reacting to. If we were listening to a Chris Bell song instead, I'm sure there would be plenty of "RIP Chris" comments too.
@AllCanadiaReject

MN 45s This is a Chris Bell song. All of the songs off of No. 1 Record were written by Alex and Chris except The India Song.
@mn45s47
@mn45s47 9 жыл бұрын
AllCanadiaReject This is a Chilton song, despite being credited to both. Likewise, "Feel" and "My Life is Right" were Bell numbers to which Chilton had very little input. While there were some collaborations on the album, several of the songs were essentially written by one or the other. They adopted the duo credits, largely because that's what "Lennon-McCartney" did.
@AllCanadiaReject

I saw Alex perform three times. The second time I gave him a cassette of some songs that my band, David Young and the Restless recorded. I was about thirty years old. He was very gracious, was having dinner after the show in Tallahassee, Fl. Years later I read an interview with him and he mentioned that all these young guys were constantly giving him cassettes of their music. Haha! I wonder if he ever listened to it. He was so great, every time I saw him. Talent just dripping from his ears. I remember his guitar was always loud and proud, with not a lot of effects on it. He was a great musician and didn't need a lot of tricks to sound like it.
