After finishing the game in the best ending, looking at this entire route is really depressing, it's a better RPG experience, the dream world evolves, the characters have more depth and there are a lot more quests and areas to explore, but this is all fake, the real Sunny accomplished nothing, he won't see his real friends ever again and everyone's life will remain broken forever. What a great game.
@SnancyNegative3 жыл бұрын
I like it. It's a choice you have to make. You can either delve further into the dream, and get that much more out of the RPG aspect and the headspace characters, or you can go work on trying to mend a broken friendship and get much more out of the ACTUAL characters of the game. And you can't have it both ways, because they are antithetical in their nature. You either keep living the escapist fantasy, or stop running and try to make your last three days in town count.

The layers to this game are the best part for me, and I love all the contrast between Headspace and the Real World. My favorite highlight is how Mari's picnic's are placed. You get through challenging fights, and can feel confident that big sis Mari is right around the corner to patch you up. She's there to offer you a chance to breath, heal yourself, and get some cute little interactions. But the real world has no Mari picnics. There's no free healing after hard fights. There's no cute little breathers with your friends (barring a few scenes in the final day). There is no big sister to look after you. Just empty picnic baskets and a lonely piano. The game knows exactly how to punch you in the guy, and I adore every second of it.

@theethereal1883 жыл бұрын
26:55 This moment has always remained super vivid to me and at first, I didn't really get it - but I think I understand now. It's symbolic of how SUNNY has chosen to escape his fears, his paranoia, depression and loneliness not through confronting the truth, but by escaping into another reality. Existing as SUNNY has become too painful, too tumultuous and too incomprehensible without anyone by his side, and so, he accepts the help of his shattered will, OMORI, as SUNNY vanishes, now at peace with OMORI at the reins. Heck, the guy even glances up at the black lightbulb, symbolic of the repression of ideas. When OMORI is visible in the mirror afterward in the morning, it's not saying that SUNNY is dead, or that he no longer exists. It's that SUNNY has turned his back on the real world for good, that reality is nothing but an unending nightmare, a nightmare that can only be weathered by OMORI. His suffering, hence, is not ended, it is merely ignored in favour of an escape. SUNNY never has to die in this route. But with no one who understands him, the utter despair that has consumed his every waking moment, his depression leaving an empty void bereft of feelings and the conviction that reality is no longer worth the agony... He survives, but never truly lives.

Omori (the character) gets a bad rap because of the true ending I think. He's just symbolic of someone's response to trauma. You have to face your trauma in the True Route, which makes it become violent and overly defensive because that's how it works in the real world, trauma is messy and your body's response is to try and protect you even if it's actually harming you. In the Hikikomori Route, Omori truly is saving Sunny, as without this fantasy world to escape to, Sunny would likely die. Omori protects Sunny, or tries to, even if he doesn't do it in the best ways. Sort of like allergic reactions.

Yknow, thinking about how Space Ex-Husband and Sweetheart are the representation of a toxic relationship, it makes me think that maybe they’re also more than that? Maybe Sweetheart represents how Sunny feels towards his childhood, as something untouchable, perfect in every way, and he’s always reminded about it and how he can’t have it back. Space Ex-husband is like sunny constantly grieving about his childhood, getting angry that things can’t go back the way it used to be, suffering whenever he gets a split moment of relief only for it to fall out of his grip again and again. The other HEARTS (Mutant, perfect, and robo) are attempts to get his childhood back but there’s always something just not right about it, or in perfecthearts case, the original is just better than any recreation of it.

The real endings left me in tears but the ending to the hikkikomori route felt really anticlimactic and left me feeling empty. Even though the hikkikomori route offers alot of more headspace content (and honestly the Sculpture gator guy is probably one of my favorite characters) I still like the reality route better since you meet your friends in reality and help them with their problems, and you also get some help with your own problems. The true good ending made me cry and it also helped me with facing my own problems I've been struggeling with. What an amazing game, I've been excited to see how this game would turn out ever since I saw the first trailer and honestly, the 6 years of waiting feels like it was worth it. Makes sense not to feel exciting or satisfying. You didn’t deal with your demons, you ignored them. You had more time to yourself and explore where your dreams could take you, but the reality of isolation shouldn’t be a looming dread that no one’s there or psychological horrors. It’s just emptiness. No bogeymen in the closet or monsters under the bed, Sunny’s too old for that. He’s not facing any demons with the support old friends. Instead, He’s waiting on a miracle that the issue just fades away. So how do you tell a story of a person who wishes for more without? Make the audience feel like more could be done. Because a lot more could have been.
@gracekelley2907 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, after watching the Reality route first... this rings incredibly hollow. Part of me wonders if I missed out by watching the good route and not the hikikimori one, but honestly, i think it makes it more poignant. While it currently leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, I can be happy knowing that in the best ending, Sunny got to leave and confront his issues in order to become a better person. But here... sure, the headspace stuff is left open ended because that's the purpose of it. It really makes me look back on the initial premise of having to choose between a real and a possibly fake world that looks better. Since we were given so little context as to the real game's plot, and we didn't see much of the real world, I was gunning for the ending where Omori stays in the happy world with his friends.... but then the game came out and I got more context to what was going on... Well, seeing this play out has made it incredibly unpalatable, especially since, in the real ending, while there's no guarantee of things 100% being better, at least Sunny has overcome his demons and can finally start to move forward, and at least he has Basil. Sure, they won't be able to meet in person for a while, but they can keep in touch via phones or writing, and they have a little bit of time to spend together before they both have to leave the hospital, I can't imagine them being released the day they both woke up, lol. Here... it's all lies, a fabrication to keep Sunny from ever really living. Sure, he's safe, but at what cost. Basil is dead, Kel, Aubrey and Hero lost their chance to see Sunny or Basil ever again and they're going to be even more traumatized by both losses. Even if Sunny is still alive, he's gone physically and mentally. And the worst thing is, he knows it's no way to live his life... but he can't find another way to be. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if this game goes on to become one of the RPG greats, if it isn't already. Idk, i recently got around to finishing the game, and it's incredibly sincere and respectful to the topics it discusses, and it has a lot of heart on top of that. Maybe that's why this ending is so rough, because I've seen it be better, and I know it can be, and all it can take is something as simple as opening up a door. I agree about the waiting! I do feel like Omocat could have done a bit more to update her backers and show the game, but I also get that it involved striking a right balance between spoiling and keeping surprises hidden for the audience. Idk, its a tough situation all around and Still, it was worth the wait and I hope that Omocat doesn't get discouraged from game development, (though I'd understand if it did.) Idk my feelings about this game are very complex, but my overall feeling is that it was well worth the wait. Sorry for the long ramble, I just... I have a lot of thoughts about this game.

One thing I noticed that unlike in the normal route, we never saw Mari in White, especially she was supposed to guide you through the water when going to Last Resort, she also appeared in other segments too, being there to push Sunny into overcoming his issues. Wonder why she decides not show up after you take this route.
@Joesgamesntech3 жыл бұрын
Maybe she has given up trying to save him after four years because he at least seems happy there, and to force him to get over his fears, move on reconnect with his friends etc, would just seem cruel as reality is so painful for Sunny, and he would just realise that Basil is dead and become even more guilty? I think when you see Mari like that, it’s her spirit trying to help you move on.
@morganwilliams25973 жыл бұрын
Actually, since dreamworld is Sunny's creation, I think the idea that Mari helps is a sign that Sunny still had hope she would forgive him, and like her self before she died, always want to help him overcome his fears. When she no longer appears, it's proof that Sunny no longer believes that, and he decides to rely on Omori/Dreamworld. He chooses not to face Mari, so Mari becomes less and less present in Dreamworld.

I'd say she's pissed and desperate for Sunny to open his ears, but he won't listen to her. You know how the boardwalk scene implies that Headspace Mari is sometimes Mari's spirit, and thats why she had autonomy? I yhink a similar situation happened in the Basil boss rush. She used the "Its just a clone, you're not hurting the real me!" logic of the simulator to get Sunny to face the Truth one last time. It's mean and extreme, but Mari is probably desperate and is using the Nuclear option. Of course it didn't work, Sunny turned tail and ran away, but she at least tried

It's so strange how a "best case scenario" playthrough and a Hikkikomori playthrough differ Watching Manly play the good route -Omori's Journey looks much more like a exp grind to become the boss. Omori needs to relocate and rescue Basil, but ends up destroying Basil for being a final reminder of the truth in dreamland. This Omori becomes strong enough to do what is needed in "protecting" sunny forever with a never ending dream off a building. A combination of overwhelming guilt, constant suffering, and dreamy bliss. -Meanwhile the player experiences what Sunny know is true and gets to piece together this incredible sad story while also trying to mend a torn tapestry. But in the Hikkikomori route, it's all broken -Omori darn near outright loses to Sunny's idea of Basil Guilt. The fear, anger, and emotional turmoil of one of his closest friends (and confidants) is strong enough to spiral Omori into this avoidance of truth that is wicked worse then the power hungry omori. He just skips it. Straight to plan x he's taking this bitch over and locks Basil's truth in the deepest pits of his world to probably resurface later and cause them to K.O. irl. -And Sunny's life is just some incredibly boring chores with his trauma becoming more active present in the real world while he starves/disassociates worse until he's just ...gone. Dreaming till his world ends What an insane game that made lots of people cry

I finished my first playthrough of Omori and got the True ending. I saw this and after watching, it makes me think how sad this route truly is if you do it on your first run. Firstly, you don't actually know what happens to Mari in the real world. When you wake up she's not there and you never know why. You also don't realize how different everyone is in the real world compared to headspace. Kel is tall af, Aubrey is just mad and Hero is... Hero but with an air of sadness. It also just makes the game seem shallow in my opinion, in the Sunny route, you get all the story and a bittersweet ending but in this route, it's just another rpg, sure you get a cool combat system and fun characters, but you don't actually understand what's going on. It just seems sad to think how there could be people out there that did the Hikikomori route on their first run and never found out the truth of Sunny's suffering. Well, it's been a month since I finished the game and I still think about it, I truly loved it and I feel there won't be another game that will make me feel the same as Omori did. I feel that this isn't just a game but an experience. Anyway good day to you all and stay strong my friends.

Even though you can't swim, it's what you have to do to save your friend Hikikomori route: "oh nuuuuuu bath scawwyyyyyy" _(drowns and dies)_

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but when Basil returns to the picnics with Mari, the one photo in his photo book that isn't labeled is the photo taken outside of Basil's house (DREAMWORLD) right before you go to the Real World (or Sunny's house) for the first time, and face SOMETHING on the stairs. I found it out while playing through OMORI again, and found it really interesting.

20:47 ...OMORI is staring back No SUNNY. But OMORI
@FZone963 жыл бұрын
There is nothing left of SUNNY anymore, he can no longer move on, he rather stays in his bubble as OMORI, fleeing from his problems and only caring about himself. He doesn't even recognize the employees from the Moving Company at the Ending as people anymore, he only sees black transparent silhouettes. It's quite sad honestly, SUNNY doesn't even know how KEL looks like in the REAL WORLD in this route, he only sees the projections of his friends how they used to look 4 years ago, not to mention the things that go down in the real world with AUBREY griefing MARI and bullying BASIL, HERO returning from college and he and KEL having a little baby sister now...

I think the walking up the red hands staircase represents that it’s a part of black space, and the most horrible part of it, where sunny represses his memories and everything else.

sunny has a LOT of toys and books. he also has a pretty big house (same size as kel and hero's, but bigger than basil's and aubrey's), which had a lot of fun stuff like video games (and the tree house), which is why the friends hung out there so much. so it shows sunny's parents are well off (or used to be), this could have added to the pressure they put on mari to succeed

Just wanted to say in 2:42 the *spooks* arent exclusive to the route. They happen if you wake yourself at night when you are not supposed to. Its like Sunny is forcing himself to go back to sleep by imagining those things.
@bubbalubba37473 жыл бұрын
The developers really made choosing which route to play a tough a choice. Do you want to let Sunny have his happy ending but loses a lot of potential gameplay content or do you want to doom Sunny to forever live in a dream just so your game is funner.

I like how that's almost reflective of Sunny's feelings too. In the hikkimori route he gets to be lost in the fun and cute world, with lots to do and entertaining quests to play, but in the end changes nothing about Sunny's mental state and just leaves him as a hollow shell of himself, similar to how the player would feel when they play this route. More content to play, but the end result is so empty and bitter, and, as a lot of people have said, anti climatic.

SPOILER FOR OMORI. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The character shown is actually Sunny during the Good Ending sequence should you check on Basil during the evening of Day 3. This is during the sequence when Sunny faces the gruesome truth. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqW1mHuad5hpmcU)

Basically, the term "hikikoomori" means like your confined, a shut-in, that's why you can see that nearly the rest of the game you just stay in your house until the last day (I don't know, I haven't played the game yet, though I am a bit storywise with the game).

Something that feels awful is ABBI's gifts and how each of the other characters have ultimate weapons relating to their Real World counterparts. As if ABBI wanted to remind Sunny and Omori about their real friends, that even if she can't fully remember nor can she help Sunny remember, she can at least give one last reminder.

I feel like the ending when he was leaving was saying that even if he leaves that guilt won’t.
@nothingcanyouseentherenope60752 жыл бұрын
At 26:55 instead of sunny seeing his friends, he chose to be inside and never chose to leave the house and never remembered the truth. That means he couldnt overcome any of his problems and beat omori. Instead, he gave control to omori and lost his identify without trying. The thing that is even sadder is that while losing to omori when fighting him, sunny drops the violin and then lost control. But in this timeline, sunny not only doesnt know what the truth is, but also he is filled with fear and trauma. At the cutscene, sunny looks at omori as a way to escape, and simply give the control to omori. Then, he lost everything that he could've used to overcome and improvise. Now, omori makes sunny's body and mind to get more hallucinations and basically merge the headspace with the real world. Also, Abbi is a representation of sunny trying to reach out and remember the truth but he has no power over omori and just like that he was gone. Sunny no longer has the control of his own soul and body anymore. this is a very good and very realistic and a very sad ending for me.

so is the ending in regards to something bad happening to sunny in the car or in reference to basil ?
@LarryButz3 жыл бұрын
Basil ends up committing suicide due to a lack of interaction from anyone and learning that you moved out already (his grandmother is also insinuated to have died in both routes so that doesn't help his mental state), he also does this in the neutral ending of Sunny's route if you ignore him in the last night. You even see his corpse

For anyone wondering, the sirens in the background of the credits are ambulance noises for Basil… because Sunny never made things right with him, Basil committed sudoku. (If you know what i mean the n you know what i mean.) There’s an option of actually seeing dead basil in his house with Kel, Hero and Aubrey there, but I believe that’s on a different route.
