I don't think its that Kel doesn't care but he just kinda seems really straight forward and a little dumb, he knows can't and couldn't do anything to help Mari, she's already dead, and he doesn't think about staying miserable for Mari because like he (probably) told Hero that she wouldn't want them to be sad. They all hold onto there grief for different reasons. I think Kel only stops trying to help Hero and Aubrey after the fight he has with Hero. He keeps saying how he didn't want to make it worse and I feel like that only happens after it. Which also is what really cements the separation of the group and for them all to fall into their own sorta whitespaces to say. Also I personally feel like Sunny's friends forgive him, whatever timeframe is up to the person. Mostly because of two scenes; Hero and Kel's fight and Aubrey and Basil's fight is honestly the same as Sunny and Mari's fight. Both had someone become livid, Kel admitted to being scared of Hero when he got mad at him and Aubrey herself almost killed Basil (and Sunny if he goes in the water) by pushing him, the same way Mari dies when Sunny becomes upset. The only difference between what Aubrey and Hero did was that no one died. If him and Mari had that same argument _anywhere else_ she would probably still be alive. It was an honest moment of weakness and a mistake that I don't think the other friends would hold against Sunny. Esp like, Aubrey after the Basil accident. If Hero hadn't been there him or Sunny would have probably died. I think them all thinking and believing it was suicide and not an accident is what really hurts them as a group because if Mari kills herself than that means they feel they could have done something, they have a more personal stake in her death. They could have said something, paid more attention. If it's an accident, however, then I think that frees them all of a lot guilt they hold onto from her death. They could not have done anything in that event and would bring them peace.

There was a video that theorized that the drawing given to you at the start of the game that explains the Sad>Happy>Angry>Sad triangle was also an implication on how Hero, Kel, Aubrey and Sunny dealt with their grief. Hero became depressed, Kel thought happiness would make it go away, Aubery became angry and violent, and Sunny was neutral as he became detached and emotionless.
