OMORI is a game that I beat two days ago at the time of uploading this. However, I can already tell this is going to be a game that will always mean a lot to me. I don't know why, but I really felt like the OST would translate excellently to lofi. So after I beat the game, that's the first thing I looked for! I found some great stuff, so I decided to make a playlist showcasing my favorite covers I've seen so far. With these being so good, I can't even imagine what the future will hold for Omori remixes!

This one's really pleasant. The percussion really hits, and it pairs super well with that compressed piano melody.

I only now realized the title is a reference to Sweetheart and Spaceboy's relationship - Sugar and star... Aww....

Hey, fun fact. I'm pretty sure the lead instrument to the original and many other Omori songs is the harp from Earthbound! Pretty nice, huh?

I love that this song has a lofi remix. It's like if the group chose to overcome their feelings by making relaxing music instead of fighting.

I'm not the one to cry at games or books movies ect. but this game...its something else. Man the final duet and hospital ending get me everytime. The OST is crafted in such a perfect way to fit with the vibe of when they play in-game, and feel really happy your first playthrough. Omori is the first game since Undertale that legitimately made me cry. It's story is just so tragically beautiful and I encourage anyone who hasn't yet to either play it or if you can't, watch a playthrough. It's a masterpiece a decade in the making. And yeah, its music slaps. :')

Chrono Trigger, Omori, Undertale are my three favorite games all for very different reasons and I find that so interesting to poke around my brain as to why. I feel about Chrono Trigger the way some people feel about a favorite book - like they just can’t wait to pick it up and read it again. Except in this scenario, the book comes with a personalized incredible soundtrack and also full SNES video game with it. Undertale’s characters are so well-written that sometimes when I think or say something they’ve already said it. I really admire the music for 2 reasons - one, it was made ENTIRELY out of free instruments/soundfonts online, and 2, it taught me that anyone could make good music with the time and practice which encouraged me to make my own music. Now, OMORI. I feel like it fixes a lot of things that bugged me in other games I like, ex: Earthbound: Omori adds more exciting combat and immersive story that better utilizes the more realistic setting Yume Nikki: Has a defined plot and a whole bonus RPG to add to the creep factor of Yume Nikki, plus Omori takes the bizarre and disjointed nature of that game’s style and utilizes it to advance its own plot (also the stuff you need to find is easier to find) Chrono Trigger: My biggest complaint with Chrono Trigger ports are how embarrassingly bad the anime cut ins are implemented. They feel like fan art and don’t mesh well with the game’s style at all, especially the changed character designs and music. Omori actually takes extra steps to meld the pixel art and anime art style better, to the point where I can probably say it’s my favorite animated art style for a video game (CT still takes the cake on pixel art for me, sorry Omori!) Undertale: Omori still uses music with samples from other games, and still utilizes multiple routes, however it feels less tethered to the games and consoles that inspired it, like NES/SNES RPGS and Touhou despite using a lot of the same samples. And I feel more motivated to try other routes as opposed to Undertale, which is intentional in Undertale’s design but that plus Omori being a lot longer makes it more replayable for me. And Omori itself, wow. That’s a game that really helped my mental health and connected with me in a lot of very personal ways. There’s a lot of stuff in that game, good and bad, that I can really connect to. I’m so happy I was able to find this game and it’s been a huge inspiration to me as I take my next steps in life. And also Gator Gambol is the best normal battle theme it’s a true slapper

@@LavosTheOneEyedTick I'll agree with Gator Gambol though my favorite theme in general will remain World's End Valentine. And yeah, I specifically like how much it takes from Yume Nikki and gives it its own story. It even manages to fit that random distorted nightmare feeling in Blackspace! As for Undertale, I actually felt very encouraged by multiple factors of the game to do other routes, I think just it's not seen as often because True Pacifist was spoiled, but really your first run is supposed to be a neutral route, and to see the consequences of your actions in full force. Omori really doesn't do it the same way, with specific scripted choices being the only things that actually alter the route, but I will agree it seems much more replayable, mainly because: -There's less mandatory cutscenes, while Undertale has little gameplay between its own. -The Hikikiomori route and the Sunny routes are so drastically different, even more so than Undertale's genocide and pacifist routes, and those are the only two main ones. -The use of multiple save files so you don't have to replay the ENTIRE GAME to find one small thing. (Thank god for SAVE file editing) -And the combat allowing you to strategize more. Undertale's combat system is fun but after replaying a couple times you find yourself facing the same attacks. And my god the artstyle. I really love how they chose this kinda scribbly artstyle for the hi-res art. Its simplicity just fits so well into the more detailed but lower res pixel art.

And yeah Omori's got so much music for everything, as dense as Undertale. I just really like harpsichord, violins, and eurobeat. Plus WEV's intro is just... _chef's kiss._

If there ever is an OMORI sequel, I think the most logical continuation is Hero dealing with Sunny telling the truth, if you know about the Kel graveyard scene, I feel like he's gonna take it the hardest. I don't think a Basil prequel would be as interesting as that, we already know Basil loses the same fight Sunny had if he also had his own little dream journey.

Fallen Down and By Your Side is an interesting comparison, especially when you consider the "nostalgia" and "panic room" versions going around. Both of the original songs, when shared with their associated characters (Toriel and Mari) and played normally are generally pretty calming and reassuring, but both can also easily become nostalgic, like holding onto a faint memory, or even downright terrifying, depending on how you use or adjust them.

Exactly!! There’s even hidden slowed down versions of the respective songs in both games, and they both use samples from Earthbound, which I also find very interesting. They definitely have a very nostalgic/bittersweet feeling and I can see why so many adore them. (Me personally I’m partial to Fallen Down Reprise since it samples Chrono Trigger in the back half but I love it and By Your Side equally)

​@@LavosTheOneEyedTick Honestly Fallen Down, even Reprise, weren't ever my favorite songs. I grew to love them and I appreciate how they can be used, but it always felt a bit... repetitive? Idk it's more inclined to being a safety song, with enough instruments to keep it from being empty, but also so simple in melody that it fades into the background. Creepy/nostalgic versions almost seem to emphasize the melody more to make up for that. But By Your Side? It _embraces_ that emptiness. It's mainly just the melody, light and fleeting, but very much so being a steadfast tune, going beyond Fallen Down's melody. This become apparent in the scene before facing Something in the Water, with the echoing piano giving this ghostly feeling. That's why I prefer By Your Side, if you understood any of that. And yeah the sampling is a neat coincidence.

Also another comparison could be His Theme and Final Duet. Both are themes that you hear much earlier on in the game (Memory, and Omori's Title Theme) that you don't even realize are going to emotionally decimate you in their true ending.
