Something I noticed was that in the first battle with Space Boyfriend, he has a bandage over his heart, signifying that he was fixing his heart or something like that. In this sprite, he has a gash where the bandage used to be, signifying that his heart’s really been broken now.

(Pretty big spoilers down below.) At certain moments I really couldn't care less about Capt. Spaceboy and Sweetheart's relationship drama thing (partially because Sweetheart is a BITCH), but it's at this fight that I really start to feel for the poor guy. Capt. Spaceboy had his heart be played with only to be crushed not once, but twice. The emotions from the memories are so strong, the sadness cuts so deep that the poor guy just wants to encase himself in ice just to escape the pain. Reminds me a bit about the pain that Sunny had to go through following Mari's death. Gosh, this game really hits me where it hurts, doesn't it...?

spoilers: I always felt like capt space boy was purposely created with similarities to sunny/omori. Think about it, he's got two personalities (one born from trauma) and everyone in headspace just acts like it's totally normal! He also feel lots of pain and sadness, to the point were he can't leave his bed (similar to Sunny). Finally, when he's at his lowest, he needs his friends (Aubrey Kel and Hero) to bring him to his senses. It's like capt space boy's story is a more silly, kid-friendly version of Sunny's story.

@@berryrue12 Spoilers. Plus, the most important moments in Sunny's journey to recovery involve him feeling emotion, between overcoming his fears and ultimately learning to move on from Mari's death. The main difference is just that Spaceboy feels the three main emotions rather than fear, because Sunny subconsciously avoids showing fear as it's associated with the truth. That, and Spaceboy's eye patch probably foreshadows Sunny losing his own eye.

Sweetheart was abusing Spaceboy. When he describes his memories he thinks of Sweetheart breaking his possessions and physically assaulting him with her mace, and you could see a special cell dedicated to him in her castle where he was presumably locked up. At first when you see their relationship it just looks like a bunch of silly nonsense- or even sometimes the opposite, believing Spaceboy was the one who was abusive because of the way he took the breakup- but she truly treated him like a piece of meat, not like a person. On my first playthrough, some of my initial theories were that Mari was abusive, or maybe even the villain, believing that Hellmari could be a representation of a monstrous form Sunny saw in her as opposed to reflexive anger over the accident. I'm pretty sure this isn't meant to be the case but she clearly has a "charisma break" moment in the Truth scene from trying to corner Sunny, so it makes me wonder if Mari had some abusive tendencies considering how many callbacks there are between the two and Sweetheart/Spaceboy.

i dont think Mari was abusive, or tried to be, but i think her perfectionism towards the recital made her hurt Sunny, draging him away from his friends to go practice, Sunny's hands and ears hurting from playing the violin too much hence the truth segment where his ears and fingers are bleeding and falling off. Thats why he thew the violin down the stairs in the first place i believe.
