Palo and Santeria (Lucumi) are both DIFFERENT religions but tend to be practiced by a lot of santeros also. Usually you will initiate into Palo because one of your muertos (dead) was a priest; or because it comes up in a consultation. For me, it was because I'm a child of Oya and it's common for Oya's children (who work with the dead) to also in the very least be rayamiento into Palo. However, even though the spiritual forces are *similar* they are different forces.
