Nice video ! When you combine all the colors of the Orishas and think of them as being different hues of light, it becomes white light. May Yemaya bless you brother !

I just asked Obatala to show me how to honor him so we are familiar with one another when it is time for my head cleansing. Like literally minutes ago! Your vid came up on my home page right after.

Great presentation, thank you for sharing. I would only add that, according to the well-accomplished linguist Modupe Oduyoye of Nigeria, Obatala is a combination of Oba+tala. Oba, as you stated, equals "king" though derived from the base "iba" ("father"). Tala is a reflex and cognate of the Arabic "tali" (exalted, high). Obatala, therefore, means the "Exalted King." Even if one isolates "ala," it still doesn't mean "white" because of the high tone accents on the two vowels. Low tones would reflect white. So, the traditional definition "King of the White Cloth" is based on "folk etymology." I'm in agreement with Oduyoye that most of the most ancient names or words in Yoruba should be compared to other phyla to determine cognates and uncover the "true" meaning - including words such as Olu and Oluwa have parallels (i.e., cognates) in Canaanite, Sumerian, and Akkadian language, for instance. How so? So-called NIger-Kordofanian, Nilo-Saharan, and Afrasian were once a linguistic superfamily before they "diverged" tens of thousands of years ago. Hence, they share many word cognates.

Elegua in vodou is legba. He's colors are White ( in rada ) Yellow, Red, black, purple ( in petro ) red and black together is MAKAYA ......which is a rite of dark magic , demonic possession etc . a very powerful branch in the vodou.

How is it that in santeria/lucumi/ pale etc people get " crown " elegua ? Elegua in Haitian vodou is Atibon legba, katawoulo legba, a legba di, a legba ze, ati bon legba. He is also the first spirit to invoke/evoke before ANY other spirits can come through in possession. Everything we doing in vodou is base around possession 99% of the time. But legba in vodou cannot be anyone's " met tet " ( master of ones head ) due to he's high status. Can you please explain in a video ? thanks !
