Great little aircraft and a nice demo once again. That was neat when you replayed the swallow or what ever that flew across in front of the glider lol.. You are getting very good at video editing etc. I need another glider like a hole in the head, but I think I just might use your link to get this one. I have always thought I liked long range flying the best, but you know if you don't get out and fly as much as years ago, one gets a bit rusty and i think these park flyers are nice to keep up ones skills without having to go to a farmers field miles away every time you want to fly. Happy New Year to you, and all, only an hour and a half until the new year comes in this evening. Happy Flying and a great year ahead.

Hey Andrew. Happy New Year to you & yours! These Omphobby planes are great beginners. The packaging is compact and sturdy, the destruction manual is about the best I've seen with a Chinese manufactured product plus they offer the choice of mode 1 or 2. For those who want to use their own Tx the receiver/flight control on these has ports for satellite S-BUS & DSM receivers. If you are in line for the tractor version S720 could you try to get them to include their in-house unit. Be great to get your take on it. This tends to be a bit tail heavy (that ball bearing in the nose cover is not there for nothing) but a slightly bigger battery/FPV camera fixes that. The front corners of the wings sometimes need a little shimming to tighten the back edge & fully engage the aileron tab. As you noted the clip together wings/elevators pop apart a bit TOO easy and the clipping spars can break so tape across the elevator halves and tape or rubber band keepers on the wings will improve things while still allow easy dismantling and storage. Oh and was the cricket pitch spruced up with an eye for you Mexicans to steal the test off smokey Sydney? ;-)

I have the A800 version (very similar, only with a folding tractor prop in the nose). Barely 100g and huge fun to muck about with, despite being in the 'wrong' mode. (It comes in M2.) I prefer to fly M1, but force-fed myself the basics of M2 and M4 in the late 1970s to try to be of more use to new chums on the field in the era before RC sims, flight controllers, expendable/unbreakable foamies, and balsawood trainers that went 'zoom, splat, crunch' when things went wrong. Only the cheques bounced, back then. Handy tip: The A800 came pre-smothered in ghastly transfers, which I hated. This T720 is much more tastefully done, but for anyone wanting to remove such decoration, here's a technique that worked for me. It's a 2 stage, good-cop/bad-cop process. You'll need methylated spirit; white spirit; two soft dish-washing sponges (just plain yellow sponge, with no dark green scrubbing layer); a soft cloth soaked with cold soapy water; and a little patience. Splash one sponge with meths and rub it on an offending transfer. Rub for AT LEAST 45 seconds. Yes, 45. Count them. Be patient. Keep rubbing. The colour will lift off. Meths will not dissolve the foam. Although the transfer's gone, a film of tacky glue will still be there, so swap the good-cop meths sponge for the bad-cop white spirit sponge. WARNING: White spirit WILL dissolve foam but only very slowly (10+ minutes to cause any visible damage). Wipe an area no bigger than a playing card with white spirit. The glue will come off instantly. Stop, and wipe the area with the soapy water cloth to remove all traces of white spirit. Rinse and repeat. And... relax. P.S. A mini rant. I'm not keen on the modern trend of tyro pilots only wanting to learn to fly RTF multi-channel, super-scale auto-stabilised planes. Yes, it lets 6 year-old kiddies play at RC without any tears, but if you're keen on the hobby and hope one day to have Andrew's level of flying ability, IMHO it's worth biting the bullet and learning to fly a 3-channel high-wing trainer (rudder, elevator, throttle) without any stabilising gizmos. It's the old-school approach, but it works. Modern computer radios are great - you've already got rates and expo, and all the rest of it. I know that not everyone has access to a flying club or a helpful mate or even a buddy-box; some people have to learn to fly alone. But that's fine. Build or buy a cheap, simple, slow, self-stable trainer without an electronic flight thingy. Learn the basics. It's fun, and you'll be a much more competent pilot in the long run. Happy landings. :-)
@theoztreecrasher26474 жыл бұрын
Interesting postulation of 1 set of views on the hobby there. But to leave that aside a couple of things have to be pointed out vis-à-vis the XK A800. Nice little light powered glider but the wings are a bit too thin & narrow which causes cracks to appear at the wing root. Also with that long thin nose the first nose-in will punch the alimentary orifice out of that brushed motor and dent even those normally durable EPP fenders somewhat. You'll need some time and modelling skills to get it looking "like new" again. As to those "ghastly transfers" I guess our gang of old fart fliers are just a bunch of ockers who just want to fly 'em and can't see what they look like when they're out there in the sky. But for those of a different bent why not just cover with some coloured tape to suit your taste - will help with keeping those wing cracks in check as well. And finally many folks who have been seriously involved in the hobby for long and have kept up with recent innovations (not us!) will have a serious hobby grade multi-module radio which will allow the use of the KN protocol to fly the A800 (& most other UAVs) any way you prefer.

@@l8ur1e That's nice. Sadly the elevator servo of my S720 failed a while ago, and the resulting crash damaged the wings locking system beyond repair. Not sure what to do at this point, I loved flying it, but getting spare parts here will be very costly, due to recently increased import taxes. I guess I could glue the wings in place, as last resort, but that reduces the portability of the plane, which is such a nice feature of it. And I still have to replace the faulty elevator servo. Which I hear from other S720 owners, having had issues with it as well, making me wonder if it's worth repairing.

Hi, Julian! Yep. I think stabilisation has caught on because many, many people get into RC these days via FPV and camera quad-copter 'drones', rather than by the old aeromodelling routes.
