Hello and welcome to another OMSI 2 video!
Today we're going for a run on the Smarden map! I've wanted to do a run on this map for quite some time, but we've never had a bus small enough to actually enjoy the map. Well now the DigiBus Mirage is here, we can finally go for a run on the 314.
Since we last saw each other the bus has been updated to increase the volume of the sounds. It's a short term fix but I'm still not convinced by these sounds you know!

One of my favourite maps, Smarden. Always love the variety, length and challenge - albeit not a fan of the available expansion line packs. I love taking buses like the 13.1m B8RLE on Smarden all t he time, navigating tight corners is my favourite.

I drove the Mercedese, Cummins, and MAN engined Solos. The Mercedes Engined Solos was a bag of crap, however, the Cummons were rockets and the MAN engined Solos were not too bad either. The problem is turning corners, they banked to the side far to easily.

Holy crap, I grew up riding these busses! These Optare Solos were the ones most common on our local bus route. Anyone under 16 years old used to get a card which allowed for free bus rides and free admittance to the local swiming baths (Which, as a result, was always absolutely packed to the rafters. So packed, we had to stand in a queue for about an hour before we entered. It wouldn't surprise me if every kid in town was there.) The one thing I will always remember is the characteristic 'singing' noise. I've since learned it was from their gearboxes, but it's become one of those sounds that remind me of growing up and going swimming with all my school mates.

Not all Solo's have the indicator 'beep'. I've driven various types in service. 07 - 09 Cummins, 04 - 56 Merc and the only one I know of that had a 'beep' was a 53 plate Cummins. The others had a satisfying 'click', although almost silent.

I see you were using the Ex-Yorkshore Tiger Livery Joe. So nostalgic since the company at the time was mostly Solos, and a bit of everything else like Tempos, Versas, ELCs, Scanias, Commanders, Cadets, etc.

Fantastic video joe I just hope some people from the Omsi community will come along and make a sound mod I love solos but I don’t think I love this one But other than that it’s a Nise bus 😁

I remember requesting this bus on one of the forums back in 2017 as I'm a big fan of the Allison gearbox sounds - I remember riding on one of these buses which are used as the medilink bus in Nottingham. Unfortunately, nobody was willing to create one at the time, despite offering to pay, so it's cool that it's now available on Steam. I'm thinking of buying it, but can't believe that there is no Steam Christmas sale!!! 🤨🤨 Maybe I'll wait until there is an update again for the bus sounds as the gear box still doesn't sound like the original SOLO which I believe was made for Cotterrel?

I drive Smarden quite a lot its a nice map. The Solo, 8.9m E200MMC & 9.6m Streetlite can all get round the routes.

Smarden is a nice map although some of the roads are unrealistically narrow and some of the parked cars are in bad locations unless you follow the map timetable which tells you to use the ADL E200 MMC 8.9m on all routes except the 77, 96 and 304 routes. There are also very few passengers on this map unless you turn the passenger count to >125% I might also add that the AI has been turned off on some of the really narrow roads such as those on the 314 and 347 services...

The map is purposefully unrealistically narrow and I love it :) I love to challenge myself and take 13.1m B8RLEs on it all the time.

the point of smarden is that it's a challenge for drivers, it doesn't need to be realistic as long as it's fun

The narrow roads remind me of some of the routes near here, a little west of Corfe Castle to Swanage

Personally, and please remember I don't play this game, I think the bus is fantastic. Gearbox wise, ok, it isn't accurate, but no massive deal. It wouldn't take away from the enjoyment. Value for money wise, not great. However, you need to remember people value their time and work differently. Maybe the creator could release another version of the bus with the gearbox you so long after, at a discounted price of course🤣 Route wise, I love it. Tight turns, small gaps, houses in the middle of the road...or should I say roads in the middle of houses! In the real world, the houses would've been there first. I've seen some extremely tight bus routes, especially up north (not that this particular route is there, more just for reference) This route isn't as far fetched as it would first appear

The sound FX are poor in many ways there no interiors Rattle , no thuds to simulate going over rough roads etc and the sound of the coin tray .. too clean the audio the engine sounds are the tip of the iceberg of issues that stop this becoming more playable

This bus seems to have no power steering, you're certainly running over the white lines in the middle of the road (and the curbs) quite alot! While I think your criticisms are valid, I do think sometimes you get a tad carried away. Maybe they do want to make the sounds better but would prefer to learn how to make them themselves instead of getting help from someone else? Its worth bearing in mind that if they are a lesser-known group they may charge more for less content than larger groups like studio polygon, although I dont really know much about the OMSI 2 modding scene.

Because as a paying customer I expect it to be done right… If you bought a spinach and ricotta cannelloni from Tesco, got it home to discover it had mould on, you wouldn’t be impressed if the person in customer services said “well if you’re unhappy try making your own cannelloni” 😢
