@douglasleibinger8549 Did you know, or were you familiar with a trumpet player named Don Gorder? I think he would have been there in the 70s, so way before '88.

I'm glad Trombones think this is a solo the entire time haha! I think saxophones, trumpets, and trombones may have been playing three different songs in volume. Saxophones are at PP Trumpets at MP And dear Trombones have achieved the sound barrier.

Lol. Amazing band overall; incredible bone section. I recorded this on a single stereo microphone to Minidisc in 1989 - no mixing!

@@douglasleibinger8549 Incredible. This reminds me of the sorround orchestra from 1954, which seperated the low strings and high strings (woodwinds/brass etc) into two seperate pieces.

This is such a killer chart! Does the alto sax really switch to harpsicord near the end there?

wow that was AWESOME!!! is there anywhere we can view your original manuscript? also did you get a copyist at the time, or did you hand write the parts yourself? would love to hear more!
@douglasleibinger85497 ай бұрын
Thanks so much! I do have the original manuscript - I'll think about making that available in some form. I didn't use a copyist - this was a chart for a class - pretty sure we had to write out the parts for a grade! I spent a lot of time in the 80s and 90s writing out parts by hand . . .

@@douglasleibinger8549 that's so cool! i myself also write everything by hand, including parts! ive been looking for a traditional copyist, but I've had no luck unfortunately

Yes, that was in the original hand written chart. There are a few edits in this Sibelius version. Good catch!

Sorry, The chart is grossly overarranged, with little breathing space for anybody to stretch out; Soloists who have no clue about the actual melody they’re playing, And a drummer, who’s throwing in bombs and accents behind the soloists instead of supporting them with straight time that SWINGS so they can build from…. , The tempo totally throws away the melodic beauty of the song, and the intent of the composer/lyricist. A big band chart on a tune like this can swing easily if the BPM were cut back by 33% so the figures can be heard, felt and appreciated. The intent of this writer? Constructive criticism. (Key of G - smart move :))
