I love this interview. He is absolutely right about what an artist really does. The analogy of the Gardner is perfect I think.

Bravo - We should all say hello to Brian Eno some day and give him our thanks for his music. See you at the Airport, Brian Eno.

Yes, Terence McKenna said that everything in life is ether novelty or habit. The job of the artist is to create novelty, to create something new and beautiful.... McKenna also said, that in every situation, we come out either an artist, or a mark.

Eno needs to read more about economic theory - specifically about the power of ‘the market’ versus the individual.....

Brian Eno: First noticed him on Top of the Pops - terrific image as part of Roxy Music. Then saw him as part of Portsmouth Symphonia 'dis' organising the 1812,amongst other pieces. It was very funny but also, without consciously realising it, I also 'got it' - subtly, or not so subtly, re-arranging the 1812 released an infinite variety of versions of the music. Now, as a digital artist, I use 'dis' organising as part of my artistic process. Very liberating, digital paint, no drying time, prep time, instant re-draw, maybe 75% original idea plus 25% variables 'happy accidents'...but deliberate happy accident. Plus, nature is not top down, it's bottom up, one cell to double cell is the basis of the universe, so I think science agrees with Brian, sort of Before And After Science......

Discovered his music a couple of days ago and I am loving it!, I knew some of his work as producer but didn’t have the chance to listening to his music until now and it is great!. Great interview by the way.

not just one shirt button open but 2 or 3. That's the kind of bravery I'm talking about. He's also the hotest music producer ever. They're never good looking but he is.

Wait, so both GRR Martin and Brian Eno talk about the gardener/architect metaphor... so whose idea is it? Or did they arrive at the exact same metaphor independently?

love his talks but im curious on what other artists he thinks that sound like him? if it's his ambient works ...that's a bit of a stretch. every artist from that era that has actually stood the test of (current) time has stood on their own ideas. but if he means his early glam records, please tell me which artists too 'cause that's actually my favorite era of eno.

Once again, Eno regurgitates the ideas of others. As for his observations on Beethoven, well, Eno's technical inability to score and notate music appears to distort the message on this one. How an elaborated language code can fool so many.
