Thomas and Meg give their thoughts on the On Cloudboom Echo 3. The big story and update to the Cloudboom Echo 3 is the HF superfoam midsole, a fully recyclable midsole made from Pebax and 46% bio-based materials (derived from castor beans). Paired with a full-length Speedboard carbon fiber plate and Cloudtec design, the elements come together to bring On into the modern race-day world. The upper is also race-ready, featuring a microfiber material that’s breathable and reduces water absorption. It’s light, it’s fast, and it will cost you: $289.99, to be exact.

as always, ON cloud shoes are truly well designed, very fashionable, very aesthetically pleasing, and now performing quite well....... but at that price tag is a big fat NO to ON

ON always goes after the high end. You are paying for the styling. But it's shoes. Some people like fashionable shoes. Can't blame that on people. People spend thousands of dollars on fancy sneakers, so this is no different. It is a very attractive looking shoe.

$40 premium on this vs the Vaporfly seems unjustified. It works for them to price this way for daily trainers like the Monster and Surfer since they get halo from the suburban fashion cachet. But race day buyers looking for high-end performance are completely different. I'm interested to see how this sells at $290

I'm always amazed that a male who might weigh 170lbs (2,720 oz) is so concerned over 1 oz on the end of his foot. I get the chasing lightness as I've raced bicycles, but your weight fluctuates well more than 2 ounces throughout the day. 1 oz per shoe is statistically "in the noise"

So many people are butthurt about the price. I find this strange, considering the overall cost of most races: travel, accommodation, nutrition, entry, etc. An extra $50 for precision shoes over a handful of races is not a big deal, especially with the level of inflation in the economy. If you are a penny-pincher, On shoes are not for you.

Sold all of them off in anticipation for this, so while it's pricey, I know I'm going to enjoy it so much more once it's finally on my feet :)
