Ok silly question... Are you not flooding the filed before you plant? Why does it matter if the soil is wet when your going to flood them anyway? Great job on the videos...
@robertreznik93304 жыл бұрын
We need the rain but the forecast is dry. We don't plant much wheat because it takes too much water to make 6,000 lbs and we rail it cheap to California for export to Asia. Our 1/4 half mile circle or 122 acres of wheat had 5" applied in the last 10 days. It is heading and need extra soil moisture because we will be planting corn and the irrigation on this circle is then on corn ground for perfect germination. I think you needed to sprinkle your sweet corn regularly after it was planted. Sweet corn has little starch reserves to be planted deep as field corn is.
@jfo7384 жыл бұрын
Matt, like your channel, but you don't explain why the soil has to be dry in the first place in order to plant seed.

After your explanation of why you are switching the chisel plow points to sweeps, my 6 year old son exclaimed, "That guy is Smart!" Shortly after that, Daddy saw the corn patch and thought, "Hmm" about the 6 year old's previous comment. Just kidding! Great content. That moisture should help the corn.

I found the upgrading of the chisel plow repair job fascinating. It looks "beefed up" for the future. Mother Nature is such a mysterious woman - Our home is minutes away from your fields and we did not see a drop of rain that week while you received almost 2 inches. Matt, you revealed yet another weapon in your arsenal: THE SWEEPS... what other attachment tools can you pull out of your "bag-of-tricks" to keep the planting and harvest on track?

I need to find a shop or barn sponsor for these videos then. Actually the ground where our equipment yard is located is leased. We don’t own it. So the owner nor we have much incentive to invest in a big nice shop. -M.

How long ago did you film this episode (and others)? Reason I ask is the blancorilio channel showed you already flooding the fields and seeding , along with a shortage of fertilizer. I am about 100 miles to your west (Santa Rosa) and it caught my attention with regards to the weather difference. Just curious. Thanks
@ericmanteuffel64034 жыл бұрын
Never mind. You just said in your video it is only the second week in April, so about a 2 week delay. Now the weather makes sense. Great work on the videos by the way. Really enjoying them!!

Hi Eric this was filmed in the middle of April. I am having trouble working so hard, hanging out with Juan and editing all my raw footage. I need to get caught up. I hope to do that this week by uploading a couple episodes. Thank you for your interest and please let me know if you ever have any questions. -Matthew

@@Ricefarmingtv Matthew. Thanks for the reply. Please don't think I was criticizing how long it took you to post. The thing that caught my curiosity was the difference in the weather. I know sometimes the weather sweeps in differently through the state, but when you said in a couple of episodes about the weather, I was like hmmm, I not that far away and directly to the west. Anyways, I figured you are busy working then going home to the family, with only precious time left in the day to edit your youtube videos. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!! Can't think of any questions now, but will let you know. Enjoy the nice weather coming this week

@cntslesfabrication4 жыл бұрын
If it's not dry and in big clumps the rice seed won't be at the right depth and could possibly be to deep and not grow right or at all

Dumb question, why dry soil for a crop that grows in water?
@troyadamswaymarfarm52244 жыл бұрын
Basically it's all about the seed bed preparation, even though Matt arial seeds. You still gotta get an even field and more so a proper seed bed for maximum germination...😎

In NC, we are in the middle of planting tobacco and we had 3 inches of rain in 24hrs
@robertreznik93304 жыл бұрын
If it were mine i would use a seed drill when it drys some for timely planting even with more rain. The Urea and other nutrients could be applied and covered by the drill openers. You could then cut your seeding rate some. I am an Agronomist and 50 year experience farmer so I am not a rice farmer! Because you have lots of compaction deep and much cultivation near the surface you must have a rice variety with a shallow root system.

@Ricefarmingtv4 жыл бұрын
Rick, this is correct! But right now our only goal is to work up and dry down the soil so that when we apply our fertilizer that the nitrogen bonds successfully to the soil. It needs to be dry in order for that to happen. Once the fertilizer is applied we will start the flood irrigation water. -M.
