Great that you managed to speak to someone who knows about the problem, I find it troubling to know that large numbers of trees are not surviving. I always say that even if you don't understand something, doesn't mean it won't work, so going with the full moon has to be worth doing. 👍❤

Hi, thanks for sharing, I appreciate your goals & future design for the house. Oak trees are beautiful trees. The Aussie fires that were deliberately started in 2020 were unfortunate. The Aussie bushland is so expansive & hard to stop once a fire gets out of control. However, our First Nation indiginous people used to manage the eco system by starting small fires and managing them closely. Long-term, the grasses would come back stronger, creating an environment for animals. These days, the Australian fire department still follows this practice. Just a tip, you may want to transplant the very green conifers at the front of your Cabana to behind your property because they grow into very large trees that may block your beautiful views eventually. 🇦🇺

Great job pollarding the trees, especially as neither of you had done this before! Great use of the discarded wood. Building up your stores ready for next year. you can use some of the branches for above ground gardens, by building a frame for each unit and putting the small branches at the bottom which will be covered by soil and decompose in time and feed the soil.

bush fires are devastating & sad that you had been caught in them here in Australia, they are a part of our lives here & burn offs are necessary so we don't have the destructive fires but in recent years the greenies have had their way in stopping many of the burn offs, well you got to see the result of that first hand, & Australia went up in flames. keeping your property clear of debris is a good deterrent from fires, any dead wood would be vulnerable, though you should cut with a wedge rather than straight through gives you more control of the fall, plenty of KZbin on how to prune trees am sure & you both did very well for first time all those small branches can be used in your raised gardens, forget the term but it's very effective & one way of using up branches your place is still looking quite green & hope the fires didn't go too close to your other property living out in the country is all about slowing down & looking after yourself as well as the land around you great video thanx for sharing

Yes, the situation in Australia with the fires is so extreme and quite different to what we have here. We're so sorry you have that fear every year. Here on the other hand the fires are not inevitable. In fact, the chance of having fires at this time of the year is close to 0 if it weren't for the illegal burnings started on purpose. There's not much to burn apart from brambles (as nature doesn't have time to recover from year to year), and it is a very green area, so they don't usually get too dangerous for the homes. It's because of this and because of lack of awareness that this practice is so common. Still sad to see.

In some cases burning the land is actually beneficial, but surely not the whole mountain. Don't despair it will become green in the spring.
@WaleandMe

True, naturally occurring fires are very beneficial. But, when they're manmade and instigated every year, it doesn't allow for the wilderness to recover. We can't wait for it to be green again 😀

The hand cutter you use for cutting the small branches, the handles you can enlarge. This will make cutting easier, the longer the handles the easier the cutting thicker branches. Another idea: In one of the other cabañas you have, there was a lot of raw wool. Wash it and then felt it into a thick layer the sizes of your window, and hang it on hooks inside of the window cove as isolation...... all well ment ideas. Great to see you progress and grow, into country pumpkins 😉

This was another beautiful video - Thank you both! Ale, I encourage you to choose your language consciously to aid in your self-empowerment. "I am weak-armed" is an old identity ... how about, "I'm building up my strength." In this day and age, becoming physically strong as a woman is more than practical, it's exciting and empowering and it's WAY more sexy. :) Peace and joy, Lee ❤💪❤
@WaleandMe
@WaleandMe 9 ай бұрын
Hi Lee. Thanks for your lovely reminder on the power of language. I was actually just poking a bit of fun because I've gotten a few mean comments criticisms me for being weak. The thing is I know I'm incredibly strong, and it has nothing to do with my arm muscles. I don't even particularly aspire to become physically strong. I understand that it can be very empowering to many women, but for me I find it more beautiful to exist in this world proudly as I am, regardless of my built or health. I'm sure I will become stronger as at this stage in life I am exposing myself to a lot of activities that aid that, but I want to make sure to celebrate who I am at all stages ☺ Lots of love, Ale ❤

@WaleandMe
@WaleandMe 9 ай бұрын
That's true for areas that suffer from high risk of fires. Here that is not the case at all. They specifically light then when the conditions are perfect for the fires to pick up (dry and windy days in winter) with the sole purpose of turning public wild land into grazing land for livestock. If they didn't start them, the chances of fires here at this time of the year, are close to 0. It is illegal for a reason. Hope this little explanation helps you understand the issue better.

In South Africa, near Cape Town, the 'Fynbos' vegetation only regenerates after fire, but if it burns more than once in a short time it's devastating. We also have this problem with farmers in some areas, but much less after devastating effects when it goes wrong.
@WaleandMe
@WaleandMe 9 ай бұрын
I'm glad to hear that they at least change their ways when things go wrong. Here the fires take place every year so nature has no chance of recovering. To think that this whole area used to be forest (many many years ago), and now its all practically barren..

1:24 There is a tradition in some countries that people do not throw away the seeds after eating fruit, but keep them. When they travel along the road or go for a walk in the forest - they throw these seeds on the ground and so you can find fruit trees everywhere and people used to have something to eat, e.g. when returning from a fight/war, etc.

@@WaleandMe in Poland, where I live, foresters often plant fruit trees in the forests to maintain biological balance and provide food for animals in the middle of a snowy winter. what's more, once a year, state forests distribute seedlings of deciduous, coniferous and fruit trees to anyone interested in their nurseries for free, so that everyone can afford a variety of plants in their backyard, because modern houses are tiny plots of land, with grass and a house in the middle, nothing more, sometimes poisonous thujas. Unfortunately, this is the fashion.

I bought my first chainsaw, electric, at age 74 but I didn’t have the nerve to use it until I was 76. I have a LOT of trees and bushes and have always cut the limbs, even the thick ones, with a tree saw. One tip is to make a cut on the underside of the branch first and then saw from the top. That way when the saw gets through the limb, the branch cuts through to your underside cut and the bark doesn’t peel down the tree which gives a larger surface for disease. I did finally get a limb that really called for my chainsaw so I got it out last summer and it was fun and took so much less time. By the way, I am a female, too, and we can do anything! …..I feel so sad that you had to suffer through all that smoke and have your views ruined. The fact that it was illegal made it even worse. Some people feel so entitled and will do anything that they can get away with even though it hurts other people and in your case, your health. I live 400 ft. from the forest which covers hundreds of miles and forest fire is our greatest fear.
@WaleandMe

That's so cool that you worked the chainsaw finally, congrats! Yeah, it's so scary to live next to an area that burns (our is set on fire) easily. It's very frustrating, but especially scary, because you're always a bit on edge during these times of the year. We learned about the '3-cut method' whilst sawing the trees and we used it on the second tree we cut and it does work great! Sending you lots of love ❤

Poor trees! They look horrible now - that was not the right thing to do. You were cutting to deep in the old wood. You were told, that the trees could cure this way? It is not possible to cure ash dieback, because the Hymenoscyphus fraxineus will go on. It is sad. I understand, that you want to save the trees, but it is not possible in long therm. Now I would fell the trees completly - it is very good firewood. I would plant other trees near the house. May be some birches? Betula grows fast and looks very nice. You can plant some ash trees somewhere else, where you not see them so much. Because 85% of them will die anyway.
