The sonnet "When I consider how my light is spent" is popularly known as "On His Blindness" and is a piece where Milton speaks of completely losing his eyesight while a number of years of his life lie ahead of him.
The poem is autobiographical and also seeks to explain the poet's comprehension of his condition in light of him being a subject of God, the creator who drives all existence and all beings within it.
