ON MECHANICAL DESIGN-1: AN INTRODUCTION TO MECHANICAL DESIGN

The start of a more technical practice focused series, On Mecha, will still primarily focus on reviewing the concepts and eventually the shows of mecha, On Mechanical Design is really meant to more so focus in on the art form, highlighting styles, designers and history of probably my favorite but also very neglected field of design.

What amazes me in old classical mech designs: while they indeed often look outdated because of style, they require very little updating/tweaking to look majestic and impress even modern viewers. That's why "over-redesigning" is a problem, on the other hand. Careless and excessive redesign takes away the spirit of original.

i really love this stuff--super fucking geeky in the best way. i would like to say that i feel some of the distinctions btwn "east" and "west" in these videos are pretty unnecessary tho. i think that you're making fabulous content that could def blow up on anitube, and that's the only aspect of these videos i wouldn't want to see more of in our community. i really appreciate the work ur doing, keep it up!!

That stuff will mostly come into play in relation to larger design trends and some later videos i hope to get to in the new year on western mechanical design, where it comes from, how it approaches mecha and some of its artists etc.
