After spending all this money trying to buy $12 and $16 creams, I just went back to the “bad” products like grease and all the brands we used as kids. And my hair is loving It. Aunt Jackie's and many many more brands that are in my bathroom collecting dust I've spent hundreds and hundreds on last year trying to figure my hair out. They all I mean they all dry my hair out. Cantu destroyed my hair have me protein over load with their cream that says to use daily and made my curls brittle. I know when I was little my mom used Caucasian products on my hair it was always soft and silky....I know alot of companies HAVE changed their formulas since I was a child but no black brand has worked for me yet except shea moisture JBCO used to be my staple. Not anymore . I was told they put bad alcohols in our products esp products catered to black hair to make us buy more of their products to fix a problem we never had in the first place until we started using their product. Then to go back buy more of their products to repair the issue (which i see so many women blaming themselves for the damage, breakage, dryness ) but really theres a good chance its the product esp if you are natural.

🔥🔥🔥 I agree with everything you’re saying. I’m a licensed hair stylist and the one things that bothers me as a black woman is hearing people say what another race or ethnicity needs for their hair. That is the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. Products don’t know what color you are, you use what is best for your particular hair. Oils are made from plants, fruit and vegetables which are all made from the Lord. So how can someone say a person doesn’t need oil as if it it’s just for a certain group of people. Hair color and conditioners have oils in them. Before we as black women start being loud, just make sure we’re correct. I use Paul Mitchell on all my clients because the products work. Is it black owned, no, but does it work? Yes. Products are chosen based off your texture, porosity, density and if you have other deciding factors such as chemically treated hair. That’s why when you shop at a professional store there is no such thing as an “ethnic section”. Mizani is right next to OUIDAD and that’s next to Moroccan Oil, which is next to Malibu and so forth. News flash black women, white women use oil in their hair. They even have oil based lighteners that white people and other ethnicities use because it’s less harsh on the hair shaft.😊

The pageant was a huge fundraiser, where they had Derrick Jaxson, as the guest speaker. Anywho when it all came down to it the girls didn’t go on trip. I don’t believe there eve was a trip planned, but I can’t prove that. This was marketed to seniors in high school and they basically kept delaying everything about Trip until basically all the girls had to go college and no one could go on the trip. Having someone who doesn’t need the oil and or shouldn’t use it because it is bad for their hair take away from the community is just another moment of having to deal with something solely for us being taken away. Whether it’s needed or not, if black women want to use a specific product made for them they should be able to do so without worrying that they can’t get it because a group who doesn’t need it causes a shortage for those who need it.

I just don’t see why it’s so different when someone famous or popular does it, and don’t get me wrong I definitely understand where you’re coming from and maybe if I did more research on that actual event my views on it might change but again I see it too often to invest my time in that one event. I don’t know or at least I don’t really remember who it happened to but maybe the only reason why, (I think) it went public is because she’s popular which, come to think about it may have been the reason why she did get bully and harassed, they probably felt threatened by how powerful her words can be because she has a large platform (again idk) Maybe I will educate myself on the situation after this. But I also think about the non famous/ popular people that may have experienced the same/ similar thing from other companies wether black owned or non black owned (which is why I just don’t let things bother me) And people just can’t take criticism until they eventually learn to deal with it or take it. I’m sending people over here to watch this video after they watch mine. This was a very strong take on capitalism! I don’t care about the oil personally, but I know a lot of people do. I have the tiny violins playing as well because people/brands are gonna do what they want regardless. Like you summed it all up in the end, these brands will do what’s in their best interest. I’m happy to see a Black woman get her coin! It won’t change my life personally, but I’m not about to be a hater. I do like that they have a foundation they donated to. Yeah, it’s a tax write off, but that won’t matter to the people it helps. Great video!

Thank you SheRea for this video because I’m so tired of this outrage. I cant even get on tik tok without hearing about this shit. We can be the biggest hypocrites though. Because your right we prop these brands up to make money. We are proud of them and support them with everything, then get mad with the get acquired. As a business I would think that would eventually be the ultimate goal. Not that it will help us, but because it creates wealth for them and their families. However I do believe the formulas should not change. inevitably it will because the best way to boost profit margins is to create a cheaper product(heavy on that soybean aka vegetable oil with a drop of peppermint oil) and sell it for 15 dollars. It’s a huge slap in the face because it should be cheaper to reflect the product. But we know it won’t. Mielle will end up changing the formula and people will decide if they want to support. But Monique and Melvin don’t care. That check then cleared. They sitting pretty and enjoying the publicity. And the outrage about the oil is laughable. When the last time you seen a black KZbinr mention that oil in their favorites? Like it’s the last hair oil on the market. It’s ridiculous.

If the formula switch up, I'll switch up too. I've left Carol's Daughter, Shea Moisture and other lesser known black owned brands due to formula change. I use Henna Sooq, Nowiamnappy. I have recently tried Donna's Recipe Leave In - great slip for my daughter's 4C hair. If the formula stays the same or enhanced to be better for my hair, I'll stay regardless of the owner.

So true Sherae. Then you can tell when they sell because the packaging becomes so fancy and beautiful when before it was basic to the point still pretty but you can tell when I do that and this song fortunate, I didn't know about Carol's daughter and Shea moisture SM H and like you said It's not so much that they sell is that they change the formula. Now I gotta say canola oil is not that bad, especially for high porosity hair it's great for sealing in the moisture because I use it. I have thick, coarse, high porosity hair, and when I found out about canola oil, I tried it, and it worked perfectly. Now I don't know about using it as an only oil in moisturizing creams and conditioners and stuff like that especially if you're not using cetyl alcohol BTMS 50 etc etc, or as a replacement, no, I wouldn't do that. You still need your Shea butter, mango butter, babassu oiks

Y’all tripping. I haven’t really used any of her products. I bought some rosemary and mint edge control that was on clearance and was not impressed. I understand that most people like that line the best. Y’all need to go out and get the CURLS brand. Omg I love it and it actually keeps my hair MOISTURIZED in dry Arizona so that says a lot. Camille Rose Aloe Whipped Butter Gel is amazing, and get TGIN leave in conditioner, either one works. I use these products and I have no problem with breakage or dry hair and my hair is half down my back. Oh and I make my own flaxseed gel because that’s super easy too. I’m lost as to why people would be mad about hair oil selling out. Hair oil is by far the easiest thing to make, even for those who are lazy. Grab your favorite oil and essential oil and mix together, BOMB. And it will last you and way more cost efficient than buying a small $10-$15 bottle. I NEVER buy that prepackaged hair oil because it’s a scam NOBODY can guarantee YOU hair growth. Even if you tried to tell me it was liquid gold I still wouldn’t buy it because I know It ain’t better than my homemade concoction and my hair oil lasts me. Don’t give into the hype.

🔥🔥🔥Y'all canceled Mielle before I ever got around to trying them, so I'm not invested in the faux outrage on TikTok. Also, you can't take micro and macro economics and be surprised when these companies sell out. We as a people don't get access to the resources that the major companies get, so a some of the selling out is keeping the companies from closing altogether. I'm at the point now that I just shrug my shoulders and keep it moving. Plus I have sensitive skin and scalp, so I'm very picky about what I put in my hair to start with. I can make my own at home on the low and not have to worry about a irritated scalp.

The owner was so unprofessional in what she did to Linda. I loathed them for that. I didn’t, however cancel them. There was one product that was magic on my hair and I wasn’t going to cut off my nose to spite my face. Anywho, in terms of her selling the company, it’s her company and she can do what she wants. You’re right, profit is the goal of any business. If they offered her an amount that she was comfortable with, that’s her business. I certainly hope they don’t change the formula of the one product that I like. Capitalism is what the US does. It’s that simple. We can either fight it or flow with it. It’s our choice. Everything that we do, buy, invest in, etc. is rooted in capitalism. I will always support black businesses, if at all possible. But I’m not going to cancel someone who gets their coins in a deal. Unfortunately we don’t have enough black entrepreneurs to support every aspect of my life. Businesses in general, go into business to make money. Certainly they may start with a genuine passion to help, but over time, money becomes the focus and truth be told, there is nothing wrong with that.

It is so ironic that you said, “Maybe they don’t know,” in regards to sistas who aren’t privy to purchasing Haircare products online. Surprisingly, and I mean that genuinely because I was shocked to learn that, there are far more people without access to the World Wide Web than we may think. In fact, it’s one of the things some marketers are highly concerned about in terms of expanding their business-to-consumer reach from selling products to conducting online surveys to get an accurate read of the market they want to enter. My legit thought was, “Nah, surely there aren’t ppl-especially Americans-with no internet access this day and age.” But according to the data presented at that time, I was wrong 🤷🏽♀️ but at least now I know of the reality that still exist for some folks. I personally see capitalism as a good idea (the opportunity for people of any background or “class”/caste, to build economic wealth) that’s abused by some very terrible humans, but that’s my POV. Mielle is an RN nurse turned ceo of a successful beauty brand 👏👏👏🌷🌹🌹🌷 I don't blame her for partnering with P&G. The hair & beauty market is a very competitive space. Mielle Organics wants to keep their edge in the marketplace (cvs, walmart, walgreens), and to do so, you need 💰 and leverage. I get it from a consumers' point of view when something works. We don't want things to change. But a lot of people who are criticizing mielle have never started or ran a successful business

I agree with most of this video. However, you missed one ingredient in this discussion. 99.99% of the black owned businesses were exploiting their own people by not creating products that benefited the hair long term. Black people happily, willingly and unknowingly bought into this exploitation without question. A lot of black people are still buying into it. For me, this is a full circle moment. The same people that brainwashed black people into segregating our hair products are the same people that are about to exploit their own people, along with the other black people that want to continue to participate in this exploitation. What's ironic is that these conglomerates know what they are buying is complete trash. At the end of the day it is about money. Capitalist corporations need consumers to buy their products. You don't buy; they don't make money. Move accordingly. Mielle will not be the last black owned business to sell their company or partner with a conglomerate. I say take they money. Fenty Beauty will more than likely go this route eventually.
