Stephen, I heard your performance of "On my Own" for the first time this morning. It had been reposted on a LGBTQ Facebook group for grieving widows and widowers. I lost my partner to cancer a year ago on January 3, 2020. As I listened, I realized that today was the anniversary of our first date together. The tears flowed like rain down my cheeks as I listen to it again and really listened to the words, This is a beautiful song and you do a lovely job singing it. Stephen, thanks for sharing your beautiful voice and especially this beautiful song with others.

@@StephenScaccia, Stephen, Thank you for your kind reply. You are not responsible for the wounds. They are still healing. Perhaps the tears that I experienced were a part of that healing. I think the words to the song speak to the deep feelings of longing that comes from being separated from someone that we love or have loved and the heart's longing for the closeness to a loved one that we are being denied. This past year, I have taken many long walks and spent many hours in quiet reflection trying to reconcile the loss, and make sense of where I go from here. I think on some level the words speak to that experience. I have had long conversations with Mark, trying to find understanding. In those quiet, reflective moments, I have felt, or at least image that Mark is present in spirit and listening and aware. I remember seeing the musical many years ago on stage in Chicago, when I was a college student. I loved the musical, but this song never spoke to me as clearly as it does now. Keep singing! You have a beautiful voice! You do a beautiful job of expressing the emotion of the lyrics in a way that allowed me to hear this song as I have never heard it before.

This is a beautiful song for everyone who has to live with an empty place beside them or seperated from beloved ones. It came right out of your heart. I once experienced a long distance friendship and it seemed very thrilling at first but it was also very difficult because of cultural differences, French being the language we both understood but was not our native speech and having to discover that my mate had some serious issues! I experienced joy, but also grief. Life is a duet and the second voice is grief. Sometimes the second voice can clearly be heard, then again only in the background or you don't hear it at all, but it never disappears! Carpe diem and enjoy every moment together as a gift. First time I've be touched for this song was more than 10 years ago when Joey sang this on Dawson's Creek. What good would Love be if that were not true? December 11, 2019, at 10:30 am. This realization about Love, became experience for me. I lost my magnificent husband Tom to Cancer that morning. Stephen, somehow I just came across this video. Surprising, since I listen to your covers quite frequently. I have to say I think this might be my favorite cover of yours. The raw emotion combined with the control of your voice and musicality made it especially special. This song speaks to me often. I always keep it fresh in my repertoire but have yet to sing it publicly because, like you, it is difficult for me to make it through without emotion taking over.
