Totally agree about letting the rail system take the freight. The heavies on our roads are responsible for an inordinate quantity of accidents, pollution and as you say, road surface damage. Sadly, the whole package was wrapped up together by Ernest Marples way back, and the road transport lobby held too much power since then for way too long. Rail is making a comeback though, is it too much to hope that more of our freight can be moved by rail in the future?
