Navene used to be the drummer for Animals As Leaders, and is working on a solo project where he plays acoustic drums with a MIDI controller to trigger synths/baselines. He is focusing on having live performance based pieces. This is what we wanted to capture with On Smash.

Depends on what AAL album you are talking about. Misha programmed drums for the self-titled and all drums were written and recorded by Navene on 'Weightless'.

Him being a genius has nothing to do with the camera work. Half the people I'm seeing in the comments are saying they love the drumming but hate the camera. Newsflash buddy, we don't live in a world where everyone is free from criticism. If we did then everybody would be just fine with things the way they are and nothing would get done.

Thanks, but Meinl shows only his usual cymbal setup. With this kind of music he uses different cymbals, and they mostly seem to be from the "Generation X" series. I just looked at the series and it appears as he's using the following (from his left to right): 12" Generation X Safari Hihat 8"/10" Generation X Electro Stack 18" Generation X Kinetik Crash 12"/14" Generation X Trash Hat 10" Byzance Traditional Splash

I like how creative this is, even though it's not my style of music, as a drummer I can relate to how fun to play this can actually be. On the other hand, I find the camera work totally disturbing. It keeps changing constantly, and you can't concentrate on Navene's playing. If it wouldn't change so much it would be a great feature of the video, but it just changes awfully too much. Great looking scenario! Keep these videos coming, it's always great seeing great musicianship such as this.

. What genre does this music style fall under? I used to know it but forgot. I know its just not "break beats". its got the off time, lots of start/stop/cut-offs, and complexities to it with chopped up synths and what not "as shown in the video". If anyone knows please reply. Everyone shut up, it's a music video not a movie of the performance. There's a difference. Watch any music video and count the jump cuts. See if you can really follow what any of the musicians are doing

The drummer kicks ass and I love the video effect. I think though that the video needed something more flowing or steady to carry the continuity. This footage would be awesome cut into a video where you're cutting to the band from a story line. As it is though, it's hard to watch the whole thing because it's so jumpy.
