One of our best ever sitcoms on the Buses it’s a shame they didn’t make more episodes it reminds me of life when I was a kid all the terraced houses looked the same we lived in a semi all of the cast are now dead but this show will last a while longer with audiences making them laugh 😹 you’ve made my day Butler now get that bus out

Going to sound silly but I was reading a mills n boon 70s book through the night and i looked in the back, 1972 published. 20p per book. Something made me cry, I was born in the late 70s but I hate how society has become now, how greedy the world is.. I feel utterly helpless and depressed today.. thats why I’m here. A wasted life, useless selfish parents. Dad was a joke. A stupid joke and mum no better. Im bitter and angry for the years i can never get back.. xx😢❤

The BBC knew that On the Buses would be a powerful competitor to their own sitcoms, which is why BBC One ensured their huge hit sitcom Steptoe and Son aired on the same night Friday March 20th 1970 would air at 7.55pm - 8.25pm to ensure there was no clash, and viewers had 5 minutes space to turn over for On the Buses at 8.30pm.

Except for Ann Karen who is now 83, all the rest of the cast are dead. Bob Grant who played conductor Jack, committed suicide, Doris Hare lived to a ripe old age of 92. Yet I remember this series like it was yesterday and watched the big-screen versions. Now with PC and the feminists, I don`t this comedy could be made today with Olive always being at the butt end of Reg`s and Arthur`s jokes. Difficult to take in that On The Buses began 50 years ago and is still funny today.

In 1970, the inflation rate at Britain was near 6.5%, and the cost of living was sky rocketing, which is being reflected in On the Buses when the lazy old mom moans on and on and on about not having enough money. By the time On the Buses ended in 1973, inflation had soared to near 10% in the UK.
