At 02:28 you can see that some of the people behind the fence run away. This was a very dangerous landing. Never approach towards the crowd !

@brentnorman6848Ай бұрын
That approach was looking good but then it changed to scary. It looks like rudder the wrong way. A few people decided it was getting too close and made a run for it. This looks like a great event with some amazing models that you won't find anywhere else.
@Paul-pb3vqАй бұрын
Watched a video few years ago he builds real scale jets nearly everything works include a fully detailed cockpit with instruments lit up. Absolutely fantastic. But this man can really fly, every thing he does is amazing.
@alexmcmeekin2658Ай бұрын
If this was a public entry meeting I'd be seriously worried if I were the organiser! And if I were flightline director I'd be requesting that pilot to come and interview as to what he was doing before letting him fly again! Some of the flying at these public access events is frankly appalling! Yeah as modellers we all make mistakes from time to time but events like that are not a place to make them, or even be at risk of them!
@sideshowbob5237Ай бұрын
Completely agree. On a grassy field with a few aeromodellers present: fair enough. But for a public display: seriously under-powered and other issues to be resolved when that's sorted out.
@putzytartАй бұрын
If I'm the organiser or flightline director of an event and I see that, you aren't flying again no matter what the excuse is.

Never raised the gear, no flaps on landing, unstabilised approach both in pitch and direction, amazing it didn't tip stall at that AoA, possibly C of G too far aft. In the hands of a competent pilot this plane should be rock steady on approach. How on earth are pilots like that flying at public displays. Its as though the model world is stuck back at Farnborough 1952, where the viewing public just accepts the risk. Not good.
@JeffinTDАй бұрын
Looked pretty pitch unstable on climb out too. Possibly tail heavy was my thought too. Still, that approach…

I may not have the right perspective on my computer, but the line-up for the approach went way off centerline in close, and descending way early to the field, not the runway. A good approach line-up and glide slope has always been important for a good landing. This approach seems very worthy of a missed approach and go-around for a second try!
@jimsoque4380Ай бұрын
True dat’, and with JUST one wing length away from the 6’ chain link fence (according to the shadows!) I would have to agree with you, missed approach and go ‘round.

whats with approaching the runway at like a 45 degree angle? the wind? if not then wtf. even if the wind was off, he could have crabbed. also, I would think such a large craft would respond to inputs more slowly. this looks just all over the place. maybe the sensitivity is dialed up? personally I try not to use excessive inputs. practice approaches and touch-and-goes so you don't kill somebody
@jimsoque4380Ай бұрын
It’s not a Sukoi, it’s a jet liner man, and flying straight on the first approach would have put you still on the runway, kept you out of the corn, and with better airspeed for a long landing! Next time don’t panic Don, and good for you for getting her down in one piece! Again, lots of runway to call for the Long Landing.

This one in this video can't, but it's not true as a general rule. Each RC pilot is different. Some can build and fly well. Some can fly and not build, and some can build but not fly well as shown here. And some cannot do either well.

The best seats for viewing are those closest to the action…and whether it’s a pilot or equipment issue, things happen…unfortunately. A 1/3 scale 150lb military jet doing a high speed pass at 5ft will quickly pass through that chain link fence. I guess it’s all about risk tolerance 🫣

I feel anyone flying large scale aircraft shouldn't have the need to stand behind the plane on takeoff, that's what students to rc would do because of there unfamiliarity with looking at the plane flying towards them yet. Also the plane took forever to take off either because of it being out of trim or doesn't have the appropriate power. Also yanking on the sticks of any model is a complete nono. Kills me that anyone with money can fly, But to allow them to fly in public is crazy.
